Check out this protest sign >>
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 02:38 PM by El Supremo
I could see it this morning all the way across Denver from the Cherry Creek Dam Road!

Protest sign gets a lot of attention

JEFFERSON COUNTY - An unauthorized group spent much of Tuesday morning unveiling their political message by way of a huge sign on Table Mountain.

The group is being forced to remove the material but officials are allowing them to take a break, drink some water and eat some food first.

The sign's layout is similar to a crossword puzzle and read vertically, "DNC" and then horizontally, "Destroys, Unborn, Children."

Dozens of 9NEWS viewers called to alert us about the massive protest sign.

1. We used to call that vandalism
But since it's in service to right-wing talking points, no doubt the nameless, faceless "protesters" will be hailed as heroes while they skate away from justice.

3. we also used to call it protected speech....
Would you be so quick to call it vandalism if the message was "Impeach Bush?"

11. Yes, I would
The land doesn't belong to the protesters, any more than the bridge in Beijing belonged to the people holding up the "Free Tibet" sign at the Olympics. One major difference is that the Beijing protesters and the Table Mountain vandals is that the Beijing folks were there to answer for their transgression. The Table Mountain vandals are also anonymous cowards, who don't have what it takes to risk their liberty for their "vital" message.

This isn't protected speech at all; it's cowardly vandalism. If they wanted to hold up their own banner and not deface property that doesn't belong to them exclusively, then I'd be all for it. But Table Mountain doesn't belong to them.

Does that clear it up?

22. thanks for your response....
Your position is consistent. To a limited extent I agree with you, i.e. sure, it was vandalism, but as has been aired here on DU before, my personal feeling is that speech and direct action should often be more important than property rights-- a philosphy that I interpret pretty broadly and one that is always guaranteed to start a shouting match around here. So we'll have to agree to disagree I think.

BTW, I am under the impression that the Table Mtn group IS removing their sign, although I'm sure they'd have left it if they weren't required to clean it up. On the other hand, if they left it, someone else would also have the opportunity to change it or remove it, too-- and in so doing free speech would have been protected twice!

16. Write that on Cheney's lawn, not the lawns of our fair Twin Cities.
Minneapolis/St. Paul are very liberal cities, so place don't trash the place. It's not our fault the Republicans are coming.

but...it looks like the other side has had a little bit of trouble compiling their own list-

and this guy has come up with a list of sorts but it's mostly about innuendo and rush-based rumours, NOT criminal judicial proceedings-

Bad DNC.
They really need to learn the fundie tactics of letting those kids
be born so they can die of poverty, lack of health care and
being sent to die in the fundie backed wars.
