Russia: we are ready for a new cold war
thank you neocons :sarcasm:

Russia's relations with the west plunged to their most critical point in a generation today when the Kremlin built on its military rout of Georgia by recognising the breakaway provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states.

Declaring that if his decision meant a new cold war, then so be it, President Dmitri Medvedev signed a decree conferring Russian recognition on Georgia's two secessionist regions. The move flouted UN Security Council resolutions and dismissed western insistence during the crisis of the past three weeks on respecting Georgia's territorial integrity and international borders.

Tonight, Medvedev accused Washington of shipping arms to Georgia under the guise of humanitarian aid.

7. Maybe not....but THIS time it is the US that is almost bankrupt...
...and with a severely diminished military capacity...

In a 'New' cold war Russia wins...because everyone EXCEPT the USA will still be doing business with them...afterall....they have oodles and oodles of oil and natural gas...

8. Are you willing to sit and wait it out 70 years?
That's how long the last one took to end...regardless of how it went for whom.

9. Oh how the Fortune Changes
AS this time it goes worse for US. Much worse cause dropping from so high that breaks every bone and cannot get up any more. Russia dropped only to its knees, and now it has experience of Peak Oil - and plenty oil still left and plenty of totally addicted customers.

4. Might not be a "Cold" War for too long...
I have no doubts that we're sneaking arms to Georgia under the guise of humanitarian aid. That's what * has done. He has completely eroded any trust whatsoever. The neocons are chomping at the bit for a new Cold War.

The problem comes when the New Russia decides that it's not going to stand by idly while the US rearms the Georgians, and decides to do something about it. There's going to be a real US-Russian confrontation, mark my words. I wouldn't be surprised to see shots fired.

Russia warns it may respond to US missile shield in Europe through military means

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is warning his country may respond to a U.S. missile shield in Europe through military means.

Medvedev says that the deployment of an anti-missile system close to Russian borders "will of course create additional tensions."

"We will have to react somehow, to react, of course, in a military way," Medvedev was quoted as saying Tuesday by the RIA-Novosti news agency.
