Own the national security issue

Above all, he took on national security - face on, full-throttle, enraged, as we should all be, at how disastrously American power has been handled these past eight years. He owned this issue in a way that no Democrat has owned it since Kennedy. That's a transformative event. To my mind, it is vital that both parties get to own the war on Jihadist terror and that we escape this awful Rove-Morris trap that poisons the discourse into narrow and petty partisan abuse of patriotism. Obama did this tonight. We are in his debt.

Damn right.

Democrats need to be out there in force framing this issue, instead of waiting and allowing Rove and his clones to frame it and paint us into a corner.

I'm so sick of bumper-sticker, comboy, go-it-alone, agree with me or else, "patriotism".

The truth is that the Repugs have almost destroyed our military, they've disrespected and degraded our veterans at every turn, and all this while lying us into a war to protect their fat cat oil men friends.

Time to be pissed off and I hope they continue to go for the throat all through next week. Gustav be damned. Take a breath to bless the gulf coast and hope for the best, the next to continue this push.

I enjoyed Obama being positive and trying to keep the campaign on high ground. And, to some extent, and for the minority of America that paid attention tonight, he answered all the negative ads that have been thrown to him while he was being positive. But, at this point, the democrats have to be ready to flood the airwaves, because the Repugs sure as hell will.
