And some reactions to Palin from our friends at FR:

(love this one)

"Conservative and former SPORTS announcer! Take that, Biden!"

"Lousy choice. I’m afraid he just handed the White House Obama. God help us!

How the heck is he supposed to make a campaign issue out of Obama’s inexperience when he’s got a running mate with 2 years as governor of a sparsely populated state while being a full-time mother, um, on the side? And what does it say about the Republican Party’s commitment to “family values”, when it sees fit to nominate a mother of 5 children, including a disabled, still-nursing infant, to be VP and step in as POTUS if necessary?

There’s got to be a huge celebration going on in Obama-land right now. And we’d better all be praying that Obama pulls off some really HUGE screw-up between now and Election Day."

"I like Palin, but not as much as Cantor:
Disadvantages to picking Palin:
1. Looks like pandering to women (even though Palin was on the list to begin with)
2. McCain campaign loses some of his ability to hit Obama on inexperience, as Palin has none at the national level.
I’ll still take the pick, as the 2nd best available. Will help with the base."

"Palin has more experience than Obama. It’s a win win situation." :wtf:

"Whoa! She’s a BABE! First we have Cindy McCain. Very Nice Now we have the BABE! I am HAPPY! Hot DOGGIE! There are going to be more than one web site crashing with very happy boys!"

Hot doggie. Now remember your oaths of chastity...

9. What does the pick say about McSame's judgement?????
He WANTS somebody with less (?) experience than he has criticized Obama for having, has five young children (one of whom is disabled) being cared for by a nanny, and is UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR CORRUPTION?

Just sayin'

12. I think another poster had it right
This is a "defensive" pick designed to keep Obama/Biden from going for the jugular. Thankfully, we have plenty of competent well-qualified female surrogates that will help as needed.

16. It is probably too early for us to know how the Obama campaign will react to her
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 10:38 AM by butlerd
Or the GOP "base" for that matter. Maybe we won't have to do anything at all and the base will devour her themselves leaving us free to completely demolish McSame (which is the candidate that REALLY matters in terms of the election). The GOP base, which has never fully trusted McSame due to his "Maverick Myth" (which actually cuts both ways), may yet end up being McSame's own worst enemy......in an unintentional sort of way of course. I'm in total agreement with you, however, that it's an awful pick for McSame (but it looks like a GREAT one for us AFAIK!)

Cheers!

18. Their base was luke-warm to McCain already. They now have a solid conservative on the ticket

and one who's pro-life, home schooling and anti-gay beliefs tie in 100% with what the Dobsons of the world wanted in their candidate from the start.

That said, I really have no idea how she's going to homeschool kids when she's got to travel as the VP. Her husband works and unless he's going to quit his job I don't see how they get around not using a nanny or some such for the younger children.

6. I'm surprised he didn't pick that gameshow host, Romney.
Surprised and happy, really. I think that first comment is correct. McCain just sabotaged his campaign.

7. And then...
#1 was called away from his/her computer for morning meds and probably some PRN Haldol for showing signs of decompensation.

The rest of them are starting to Get It. As much as I am sure that pains them.

Hell, some of them might secretly be harboring some Obamalust in their hearts, after last night. I mean, it was apparent that poor ol' Blind Boy Pat Robertson received the first chub he has enjoyed in decades, from O's speech.

8. Sounds like the REAL disunified party is the PUBS! I wonder if the
media is going to harp on THAT like they did on the Dem party for months?

I've heard so many cspan callers over the last month or two insist that they would never vote for McNut unless Romney, Huck, Ridge, and several others, and they won't change their mind! Last night one said they were a Pub and definately will be voting for Barr because they don't like either of the main candidates!

10. Yep. Will they harp on it? Not a chance!
Unless the disunity gets real, real obvious, at the voter level.

When Reagan died, I felt like I lost my King. We may now have a Queen.

How ironic that McCain may have saved the Republican party.

Hey Hillary, what are you gioing to say about how you are the most qualified woman when Palin will have

4 years as VP under her belt? Put some ice on it.

My dislike of John McCain is no secret on this site.

That said, his choice of Sarah Palin is the most brilliant political decision I have ever seen.

Not only does he choose a woman who is far more conservative than he is, but he shows the future Republican Party is not the party of old white men.

She is a monumental choice and confirmation that McCain understands true leadership and the boldness it requires.

I Believe Sarah Palin Will Become the First Woman President of the US and John McCain Has Not Only the Ability to See the Future But Can Play His Part in Fulfilling the Destiny of Others!

The greatest leaders are the greatest talent scouts!
