6. Nothing brilliant...just a factor of the close timing of the conventions.

This is no surprise at all. Obama got to pick and they chose to go first, knowing the day the convention ended, the Repubs would begin with the VP choice. This is all as expected. No rush to discredit the VP choice. That will come later.
