mccain has 20-something years in the senate, and his POW experience

he's perceived as being strong on military and security

by his own admission, he knows next to nothing about the economy, his "energy" plan is a joke and the rest of his policy positions is nothing more than more of the same.

seems to me that the selection of a VP is an important decision, and not one to take lightly. A VP at one time might have been no more than an "understudy" position, with duties limited to casting a tie-breaker vote in the Senate and attending state funerals in other countries. However the world has changed greatly, and slowly the VP position is more than just an understudy position, a VP is more of a partnership with the president. A team in which each person adds their strengths and abilities towards a common goal for the good of the country, for the good of all of us.

so what does Palin offer to the country? does she bring an understanding and abilities relevant to the economy? to foreign relations? to solving our energy issues? to addressing healthcare? education? environment? senior concerns?

from what I can see the only thing Palin brings to the ticket is a pair of ovaries. this says to me she was picked because she has ovaries and it's purely a choice driven by political considerations (much like the entire bush administration is driven by politics) and/or everyone else turned it down

what do you think?

3. Not serious
McCain chose a running mate who could take the most attention away from Obama instead of someone who is qualified for the job. It makes me wonder how seriously McCain takes the job of president.

4. The Spirit of Alaska politics
In a HUGE state, no corruption is too trivial to engage in. Imagine what she can do in a landscape the size of the entire US?

9. More of the same
The aledged incident where she fired a state employee who wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law looks just like Bush's firing of the attorneys in the DOJ. Just more of the same.

10. She brings a perception of a changing of the guard.
She is apparently known as a reformist governor. She is not a Bush insider, or a longtime Washington politician.

She brings relative youth, as McCain would be the oldest to take office, ever. She brings her gender, as McCain hopes to court more of the female vote. It makes sense.

Of course she is chosed for political reasons, all VP candidates are. If elected, she will have exactly the amount of power McCains chooses to give her, no more, no less.

12. but but but...
hasn't McCain been attacking Obama's on the experience? So he picks a person who's been governor for less time than he's been running for President?

Palin's resume:
Governor: 1.5 yrs
City council: two terms

11. What did Theodore Roosevelt offer the country when he was run as VP in 1900?
Sarah Palin's parallels with TR are rather striking.

15. Her prolife stance
I believe her stance on abortion was something important to McCain in his choice of her.

It will shore up his ticket for the evangelicals that he has not already won over.

And above and beyond that, and I am entirely serious here - she will appeal to male voters.

My boss, a staunch Republican, first made a comment earlier today about the choice being a bad one.

After he came back from lunch, having had lunch with several other male Republicans, he had completely changed his mind and decided that he liked the choice. He commented, "She's a lifelong member of the NRA!"

We simply must do all that we can to assure that Obama/Biden win the white house!!! The alternative is frightening.

16. Palin is a bad choice but it was done to appeal to the freepers & to diss Hillary
in a big way. After all, Hillary who worked her ass off running for president doesn't have a chance of being VP or Pres now does she, but some no name rethuglican freeper woman does have a shot. Wow, it's just mind boggling how vindictive and petty rethuglicans are. It boggles the mind.

Are the rethugs trying to lose the election?! :wtf:

17. The Corporations are giving nominal control over to the other branch because...
they feel a restlessness in the herd and fear a stampede where they will be run over. The Repugs are going to lose, MIHOP.
