Alaska is closer to Outer Space than Russia
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 12:26 PM by SteelPenguin
Other than the two uninhabited Diomede islands, Alaska, at it's closest point is 58 miles from Russia. The United States designates anyone who travels higher than 50 miles as an Astronaut.

Since Alaska is closer to Space than Russia, by Republican logic, does this give Governor Palin some sort of expertise on Space policy?

1. Well, in fairness, it's a hell of a lot closer to Russia than the rest of the US.

That being said, proximity does not equate to experience. I used to live close to Warren Buffett. That didn't make me a financial genius.

2. As you say, proximity does not equate to experience
She had ZERO dealings with Russia as Governor of Alaska. She didn't talk to Russia, meet with Russians, help with policy about Russia. Same as space. Proximity does not equate to experieince.

Even saying in fairness it's closer, is just totally meaningless. It's the most idiotic talking point I've ever heard.

3. Agreed.
The "close to Russia" portion isn't the issue, because that portion of the statement cannot be disputed. The "it means I'm experienced" portion is.
