Cindy McCain Is PROUD to Peddle (Legal) Drugs
I. Cindy McCain is Proud

McCain also said beer the distributorship her father built, which is the source of much her family's wealth, typifies the American Dream.

"My father had nothing. He and my mother sold everything they had to raise $10,000," she said. "I'm proud of what my dad and my mother did and what they built and left me. And I intend to carry their legacy as long as I can."
Cindy McCain to George Stephanopoulus

Cindy McCain did not get rich because she invented a better way to access the internet. She did not come up with a line of home decorating accessories that wowed middle America. She is not a financial wizard. She made her money the old fashioned way. She inherited it. And her dad made his a very old fashioned way. He peddled drugs. A drug that has been legal ever since they ratified the Constitutional Amendment overturning Prohibition, but that does not make it any less a drug.

II. Booze Kills

Those who claim that beer is harmless, because it has been around a long time will have to make the same allowance for coca and opium. And they will need to ignore the statistics about alcohol related illness and accident in this country.

http://www.emedicinehealth.com/alcoholism/article_em.htm

Despite all of the focus on drugs such as cocaine, alcohol remains the number one drug problem in the United States. According to community surveys, over 13% of adults in the United States will experience alcohol abuse or dependence (also referred to as alcoholism) at some point in their lives.
Withdrawal, for those physically dependent on alcohol, is much more dangerous than withdrawal from heroin or other narcotic drugs.

Even among those who do not drink to excess, alcohol can have harmful health consequences. For those who drink and drive

http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/factsheets/drving.htm

Alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes and nonfatally injure someone every two minutes (NHTSA 2006)…. During 2005, 16,885 people in the U.S. died in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes, representing 39% of all traffic-related deaths (NHTSA 2006)…. More than half of the 414 child passengers ages 14 and younger who died in alcohol-related crashes during 2005 were riding with the drinking driver (NHTSA 2006)…. Each year, alcohol-related crashes in the United States cost about $51 billion (Blincoe et al. 2002).

Alcohol use also increases rates of homicide and other violent acts including domestic violence.

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/52661.php

While smoking is the number one cause of preventable death, alcohol right up there at number three.

http://www.ensuringsolutions.org/media/media_show.htm?doc_id=682774&cat_id=1046

The negative effects of excessive alcohol consumption are typically portrayed through estimates of drunk-driving casualties or deaths from alcohol overdose. Excessive alcohol consumption is the third leading cause of preventable death in the United States though the majority of media attention focuses on other deadly health conditions.1 Consumption of alcohol — characterized by frequency and quantity — is associated with multiple adverse health consequences like liver cirrhosis, cardiovascular disease, and various cancers. Alcohol is also adversely associated with unintentional injuries and violence. For instance, in the U.S., over 14,000 deaths from falls, suicides, and homicides were related to alcohol consumption.

III. Anheuser-Busch Wants to Market Its Products to Teens

From SourceWatch:

Anheuser-Busch opposed a bill in Congress in 2005 that would combat underage drinking, yet it claims it is committed to fighting alcohol abuse. They didn't like language in the bill that calls for a ban on alcohol ads during radio and TV broadcasts of college sporting events. Mothers Against Drunk Driving and other public interest groups say that Anheuser-Busch is too focused on making money rather than caring about alcohol-abuse among under age individuals. The company had been active for two years lobbying members of Congress and federal agencies to oppose the bill.

Hensley Co., Cindy Hensley McCain’s company distributes Anheuser-Busch products exclusively, making them two parts of the same animal. If Anheuser-Busch wants to be able to peddle their products to teens, it is so their distributor can sell it to teens.

Maybe it is Anheuser-Busch’s active lobbying against legislation to combat under aged drinking that lead states attorney generals to suspect that its petite, caffeinated, fruit flavored alcoholic drinks such as Spykes were aimed at teens as starter drinks.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/05/bud_extra03.html

“Spykes, and similar caffeinated, alcoholic drinks, are double trouble, the alcohol and caffeine combine to create a high-energy rush with the illusion of alertness even though drinkers are actually impaired,” said Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who called Anheuser-Busch’s retreat a significant victory.
Consumer groups had been equally harsh in their criticism of the new beverage. The Center for the Science in the Public Interest had charged the company was deliberately trying to market to underage consumers.
“This is a shameful ploy to market malt liquor to the Lunchables set," said George A. Hacker, director of alcohol policies at CSPI. "Anheuser-Busch is practically begging to be investigated, subpoenaed, sued, or hauled before a Congressional committee to explain this one.”

I can see how Cindy McCain would be very proud to distribute this stuff. It must be hard for the women who participate in the Miss Buffalo Chip Contest to do some of the things they are asked to do sober.

However, please watch this short sermon by a Baptist minister in Phoenix, Arizona (recall that John McCain claims to be a Baptist) as he discusses addiction. Note especially his words “They will fulfill their lusts. They will tell them it is ok to drink… while they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption.” { i.e addiction).

And then ask yourself how so called Christian conservatives can support a woman who seems to think that this

is the American dream.
