Do you remember last month when my sister was layed off after 23 years? My other sister after 30
was just layed off from the same place

I am so friking angry

My news was yesterday at work I got layed off my job. They told me there wasn't enough in the bookkeeping budget for two of us. So they layed me off and kept Heather.

I don't know what they will do she doesn't even know how to do it, guess they will teach her. I guess I was the one to go because I make more money and was there the longest. What they don't understand it wasn't just a job to me it was my LIFE.... It took hubby and me 2 hours to just clean out my office last night!

Well gotta go to the store, just wanted to let you all know. Pray for us at least hubby will be going back to work on Tuesday !!!! Yeah !

++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

that company is going to get an ear full from me on Tuesday

they can not FUCK with peoples lives like that

She has been the book keeper at that place for 30 years and that young heather less than one year. NO one is more devoted to their job than my sister was. She worked many hours, she scheduled her vacation around the billing cycles and even showed the new company how to save money by a system that she started. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Now my other sister who had been at that place for ever ...she started as dishwasher and then housekeeper then they hand picked her for book keeper over 25 years ago

3. Tell her NOT to answer questions or train little Heather.
Unless they pay her a FAT consulting fee, retainer plus large hourly fee.

and he was eliminated from his job of 30 years earlier this year when IBP/Tyson meats closed (he drove 50 miles to and from work each day) then he got on at Hawker Beech, made it through his training and probabion and they went on strike...but the strike is over and they are back to work Tuesday...thank God...

7. I don't think it matters.
Everyone is suffering under the GOP--even the companies.

It still sucks that they fire people because they have experience. But, can you really blame them, when the Bush administration has ruined the dollar?

I wonder how long it will be before the company closes or is absorbed overseas?

9. I hope the fucking place goes to SHIT. My two sisters were the hardest workers
and the most caring people to all the residents.

They have been there for everyone not just their employees but they truly cared about the residents as well.

my god this is just unbelieveable

I would never put my DOG under the care they have now. Eureka is a dying town and now another unemployed person who is a staple of the community and the president of the woman's business league

good GOD what were they thinking

For someone to be robbed of their investment like that.

I hope she doesn't get Enronned.

16. Well, to reinforce what a previous poster said...
...sometimes things can work out. If, as you say, the new person does not know what she's doing, then it is quite possible they'll come crying to your sister for help. She should waste no time in finding out what the going rate is for consulting in her line of work, so if they do come calling, she is ready to name her fee.

One of the hardest things about the modern workplace is that if you stay there for any length of time, it does start to feel like family. But you have to realize it is not family. It is a money-making enterprise, and you as a worker are expendable.

Here's hoping that in a few weeks she has the last laugh as she charges them good money to pick her brains. I for one will be cheering her on!

17. This has the community in a huge uproar. This small town sticks together...it is NOT sitting well
This is a small town of 2500 people and the ENTIRE town is shocked and pissed.

Several people are actually going to pull their relatives from the home as soon as they can find a replacement home to put them in...not easy as it is the only nursing home within a 35 mile radius.

Additionally, our mother is in an assisted living facility and was scheduled to go to that home when the time comes. NOT any more. She will come to my town or the town in between my sisters and I

NO way in HELL will she go there

after they layed her off, she stayed for 2 hours trying to write out everything she could think of to help "heather" do the job.

I told her DO NOT DO THAT if they call you and ask you anything DO NOT HELP THEM not even to tell them where the paper clips are

you owe them NOTHING!!!

18. If it was me, I'd train "Heather" all right...
Train her to screw everything up in subtle ways that would be hard for anyone not intimately familiar with the procedures to catch.

A buddy of mine worked for the railroad for many years, he used to do a lot of stuff that really wasn't part of his job description. After a buyout the new owners started getting crappy with the employees so my buddy just quit doing the stuff he wasn't technically responsible for.

One of those things was draining water that accumulates in the air tanks of the compressors, the mechanics were supposed to do that but never did. After he stopped draining them, the air tanks started filling with water and pretty soon water started coming out of the air hoses in a fine spray. Locomotives have sand bins on them that drop sand on the track under the wheels when they need more traction. These sand bins are filled by pumping dry sand under pressure from the big sand reservoir in the train yard. When the air hoses started spitting water it got the sand in the big container all wet and it wouldn't flow through the hoses to the locomotives any more. They had to put men with shovels in the (very large) container to shovel out all the wet sand (heavvvvvvvy stuff). Cost the company tens of thousands of dollars just for that one incident, far more than they saved with the petty BS that upset my buddy.

That was far from the only way my buddy screwed with the company, none of which could be directly traced to him. When you are the most knowledgeable one about a system, you know the best ways to foul it up. He told me that he probably cost the company over a million dollars just by ignoring things that weren't his responsibility that he used to do as a matter of loyalty before.

Sorry to hear of your problems, I hope it all turns out well for you.

19. This sounds like an age discrimination suit in the making.
Heather's only been there a year, but does she have 29 years experience elsewhere? I'm sure not. But I bet she makes a lot less money than your sister did. If I were your sister I'd be talking with a lawyer.

21. Workers Sould Not Be Disposable
like that but such is life under our current system.
Hopefully that will change soon.

I left a small company 3 years ago to rejoin
a previous employer that was going to be merged
with another similar business. We were supposed to rescue them.
As soon as the merger was complete
they started firing my fellow employees for bogus reasons.
In a display of corporate rebellion 75% of us quit in protest
and started our own company.
14 months later we are very busy and rewarding ourselves accordingly.
The other company? They are laying people off, are deep in debt
and could soon be gone.

Sometimes you can make lemonade
from a sour situation.

I wish you all luck in finding your solution.

23. no she works for a nursing home in a small rural close-knit community
in her teens she was dishwasher for a single care facility called the Lyndon. She became head house keeper during that time. Then that was bought out by Medicalodges nursing homes inc. They hand selected her to become the bookeeper from all the employees of the Lyndon. She worked for them for over 30 years. In July Medicalodges sold to Americare and first my oldest sister was laid off, then last week my bookeeper sister was laid off

They live in a small town and are very dedicated. This is a HUGE blow to them

24. this must be breaking thir hearts!
your poor sisters. I really hope your sister gets her pension. We've kind of come to expect this shit from "big" companies but a nursing home?? You'd think that they would have a heart. Yes, it's a business, but it's a business about people.

Your sister's stories are all too familiar these days.
