MA Rescue Team Heads South To Help After Gustav

BEVERLY (WBZ) ―

The Massachusetts Urban Search and Rescue Task Force Team has been deployed to Atlanta, GA in preparation of Hurricane Gustav. http://www.matf.org/about.html">The team, known as Type-1 Task Force, has 80 members and over 20 vehicles that will be helping several local and federal units responding to the hurricane.

The Task Force is based in Beverly and is comprised of police, fire, EMS and civilians who respond to major disasters.
Currently, there are 150 people on the Massachusetts Urban Search and Rescue Task Force.

Massachusetts Task Force 1 ( MA-TF 1) Urban Search and Rescue Team (US&R) is located in Beverly, Massachusetts.
Urban Search and Rescue teams are comprised of Police, Fire, EMS and Civilians (62 total people when deployed)
and respond to major disasters under a contract with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Currently there are 150 people on the MA-TF 1 team.

1. I wonder if they'll be turned away... like so many teams were durning Katrina
probably not, because, well, you know, there's a rethug in the LA Gov's chair now.

2. No, they were requested and even the Canadian Coast Guard has offered to cover

the MA Coast Guard, if they're called to cover the Florida Coast Guard, if they're called to send boats/ships
to the Gustov area for rescues. The MA Coast Guard has also sent a jet full of 'Coasties' to GA too.

4. I was wondering what other teams are heading there... thanks for the info!
I would think that many from all over the USA will be heading down there.

5. Also, this morning, the Navy deployed a squadron of Helicopters
to Pensacola, FL.
