ALERT: SAVANNAH, FLORIDA, GEORGIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA ATLANTIC COAST
Forecast and analysis of TS Hanna, which previously seemed to be weakening due to intense shearing, shows that this tropical cyclone may become a hurricane before making landfall later this week. The abatement of shearing after 48 hours, the emergence of a 200 mb high over the area and Hanna's forecast track taking it over the Gulf Stream are all in favor of intensification. It is important to note that Savannah is traditionally a 'hurricane hole,' and Hanna may end up jogging to the west (and a Florida landfall) or to the east (and a South Carolina, Outer Banks landfall).

Go to the National Hurricane Center's web site at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov for more information.

1. I just read that it won't move until Gustav leaves the area...
maybe it will also weaken. Here's to hoping!

2. Looks like Gustav won't pack quite the punch
Whew! Let's hope the surge isn't too bad.

Hanna is reforming, but it's still an unknown.

6. "Let's hope the surge isn't too bad"
No "but" required. And the rainfall is less than expected so far due to dry air.

7. It isn't all the way there yet... so less rain right now is expected. Still 80 miles SW of NOLA

That will change as the eye nears the shore.

10. The eye is halfway onshore according to the Weather Channel
I dunno - it seems to be sliding along the shore a bit which is weakening it. It may get worse, but it looks better than expected.

4. Again....
...everyone worries, and rightly so as an indicator, about the winds. Winds are not the main killer of the storm, it's the water. The storm surge will be the equivalent of a Cat 3, which is what will do the most damage. To give you an idea, wave heights recorded in the Gulf are now between 20 and 30 feet, which combined with the rainfall and tornadoes will present the greatest threat. Remember, Katrina came ashore as a Cat 3, but the winds in NOLA were Cat 2 (the result of being in Quadrant 2 (northwest)).

12. Hanna is now moving SSW for now which is really scary
then we have a new Tropical Storm Ike out there in the Atlantic.
Climate change anyone - two hurricanes and a tropical storm at the same time.

14. June, too soon....
...July, standby...
...August, come they must....
...September, remember....
...October, all over (at least it was)....

My prediction for September, at least eight to ten tropical cyclones for the Atlantic basin.
