ATTENTION!!! "Breaker Morant" TCM 9:30 EDT
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 08:43 AM by Wilber_Stool
This is one of the finest movies ever made. If you are in a position to see it please don't miss.
The story of a military court martial during the Boer War.

Seems to be starting a little late. Most likely will start at 9:45.

Another edit. Sorry, I can't say enough about this film. If there was ever a movie without one ounce of fat, no meaningless scenes, no extra words, this is it.

2. Great movie! Many similarities b/w British status post Boar War and US in Iraq today
For a brief overview of what happened to Britain's status post Boar War:

The campaign had been expected by the British government to be over within months, and the protracted war became increasingly unpopular especially after revelations about the conditions in the concentration camps (where thousands died of disease and malnutrition). The demand for peace led to a settlement of hostilities, and in 1902, the Treaty of Vereeniging was signed.<4> The two republics were absorbed into the British Empire, although the British were forced to make a number of concessions and reparations to the Boers. The granting of limited autonomy for the area ultimately lead to the establishment of the Union of South Africa. The war had a lasting effect on the region and on British domestic politics. The war, known as the last British imperial war, was the longest (almost three years), the most expensive (over £200 million), and the most disastrous of all wars for Britain between 1815 and 1914.

3. One of my favorite movies of all time.
Great acting, writing, visuals... and so many great lines. And a true story on top of it all. I've tried through the years to find a copy of George Witten's book upon which it was based, but to no avail.

I don't have cable, but I think I'll have to put it at the top of my Netflix this week.

10. Thanks for the heads up!
I hadn't seen that movie since it first came out, and I'd forgotten how powerful it was.
