Repug vetters didn't check Palin's hometown newspaper archives.
The McCain campaign has gone to great lengths to present the selection of Sarah Palin as one made after a careful, meticulous vetting process. But evidence continues to suggest that the Arizona Republican made his VP choice with surprising haste.

On Saturday, a Democrat tasked with opposition research contacted the Huffington Post with this piece of information: as of this weekend, the McCain campaign had not gone through old newspaper articles from the Valley Frontiersman, Palin's hometown newspaper.

How does he know? The paper's (massive) archives are not online. And when he went to research past content, he was told he was the first to inquire.

"No one else had requested access before," said the source. "It's unbelievable. We were the only people to do that, which means the McCain camp didn't."

That's why we must do it.

8. See that's where we're wrong. Their pick was made by their "Vitter" not vetters
and the reason Palin was chosen was because she reminded Vitter of Wendy Cortez, his favorite diaper changing hooker.

10. I read somewhere, I think it was on the Wasilla local newspaper
in the comments, that the McCain campaign are up there vetting her now.

11. Honestly, small town newspapers rarely print anything controversial or important.
They exist to provide advertising space for local car dealerships, restaurants, etc.

Small town newspapers don't like to take a chance on offending anyone, so they simply ignore controversy.

I will be surprised if there is anything in those archives of interest to anyone outside of that community.

12. It might not be something controversial that catches Palin in some sort of deception..
What is non controversial locally might well turn out to be in direct conflict with something else she has said as a politician.

That's why the vetting process goes through these kinds of records.

14. You are so wrong - just going through the LTTE's should be a treasure trove of leads.
Think about it - Wasilla? Not exactly industry row! After you hit up the local pub for advertising dollars - is there any place left to go? If they didn't print all the juice, they'd have nothing else. Our local paper is filled with crap about our local politicians & "movers & shakers." It is a hotbed of just this kind of information. I'm sure they'll find all manner of gossip (which often passes for news in local rags).

16. Dream on.
I've lived in dozens of small towns in the mid-west, west, and south and I've never seen a local rag that likes to print "all the juice". They may even ignore an indictment!

That yours does is an interesting anomaly to me. But so be it.

There's a chance something will come up, but I think it's small and remote.

17. Maybe the papers in the small towns I've lived in (east coast)
are an anomaly, but you'd be surprised at the information that can be gleaned from a PTA meeting, school board meeting, association meeting, etc. When two factions or even individuals disagree on something, it becomes big news. And as far as our letters to the editor - if you've got an opinion on anything, it gets printed. Moreover, I was referring to leads, not investigative reporting - big difference.
