So I went nuts on the local fire department this morning . . . twice.
There's a very good chance I will now be known as the crazy lady who lives up the hill. I stopped to get gas this morning and noticed the local firefighters there, in uniform, collecting money for something. I assumed it was an equipment drive until one of them approached me to help fill the boot. As it turned out, they were trying to raise $5,000 for a local woman just diagnosed with leukemia who can't even get to see the doctor she requires until there's cash on the barrel head. It struck a nerve and after I donated and filled my car with gas, I pulled back around and went off on them about voting Democratic and universal healthcare. I ranted and raved for a good 5 minutes solid - I just couldn't shut up. They kind of stood there nodding, their jaws hitting the ground and said nothing. So I left. My next stop was the local store to pick up a paper and wouldn't you know . . . there was another group raising funds there. Once again, I went into overdrive and gave the people a rundown of McBush's healthcare nonplan and told them if they knew anyone who wasn't paying attention, they had to wake them up. I have no idea if these people were Republicans or Democrats, but I made a point of telling them people shouldn't have to beg for healthcare. Now, if only I can get my blood pressure back with a normal range. I'm generally a mild mannered, soft spoken, pleasant old thing, but I just went berserk over this poor woman's situation.

16. This is a local fundraiser for a local woman recently diagnosed with leukemia,
not a Jerry's Kids or any other national fundraising effort. The point of my berserkness is that while I'm grateful to live in a community where the locals will take it upon themselves to raise funds for a fellow citizen in need, PEOPLE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BEG FOR HEALTHCARE. Everyone sees bake sales, car washes, etc. to help defray medical expenses. It's obscene and the people of this country need to wake the fuck up before they vote for old man McCain and his $5,000 tax credit.

5. Vinca! WTG!
If you raised awareness (and no doubt you did!) and managed to change a few votes you will have done more for that woman and many more like her than a thousand fundraisers held in the middle of the road! :patriot: I salue you!

18. Umm.. tell me you at least donated to that poor woman.
I'm not sure what you meant to accomplish by going off on firefighters who were doing something good for another person. You don't know if they voted for Bush or are republicans.

I find it so sickening that we live in a Country in which people have to have bake sales to pay for operations, but preaching to those guys who were doing something kind was really not the way to get the point across.

You DID donate money.. right?

19. What an ass you are
First off, yes, we need single payer, non-profit universal health care ASAP. The sad fact of the matter is that with our two party/same corporate master system of government, we're not going to get it anytime soon unless there are some radical changes in the future.

Secondly, these firemen were doing some good, going out and collecting money for a local woman. They were dealing in the concrete realities of the NOW, not what should be or could be, but what is going on NOW. Right NOW we have a for profit health care system that is killing people and these firemen were trying to forestall that possibility. Yet you saw fit to tear them a new one, not just once, but twice, for going and doing what they can to help this poor woman. Again, rather assholish.

Third, you delivered this message to these firefighters with absolutely no clue as to whether or not their 'Pugs or Dems, whether they were for UHC or not, you just went the fuck off on them. What a prize piece of assholishness that is.

Sorry, but there are better ways and better venues to deliver your diatribe. These people were out there doing some good in the world and what have you done lately? Oh, yeah, been an asshole and then come around here and brag about it like it's something good.

:puke:

20. Wow - what asses you last 2 posters are.
The firemen completely agreed with me. My point was for them to make sure their buddies who might be considering a vote for McBush stop and think for 10 seconds. I applaud them for doing what they were doing. It was a positive rant, not a negative rant re what they were doing. You're assholes, sorry. Oh, yeah, and I did donate. More than I could afford as a matter of fact. If you'd bother to read the entire post you would have caught that. Now I'm fucking pissed off again.

24. I would have done same thing.. universal health care
means a lot to me, for the simple fact of being Christian! It's immoral for us as a nation to have the capability to diagnose, treat or cure disease but fail to do so for lack of money.
