"The crews have a break though...because of daylight savings time they have an extra hour of
daylight to fight the fire..."

When I told the story on another thread yesterday about a farmer who wrote a letter to the Dept. of Agriculture (after DST was first introduced) complaining that the extra hour of sunshine was cracking the pain on his house, I thought it might be apocryphal. Surely noone could be that stupid. Maybe I need to reconsider...

11. Ted Baxter said something like that on the old MTM Show...
Lou said a big fire just broke out at a plant in Minneapolis...Ted said west coast broadcasters got all the breaks, because out there this fire hadn't even started yet!!!

But then again, he was a buffoonish sitcom character and not a real news person. Neither is this person apparently, and neither is Faux a real news network.

Good lord.

16. This is true
We had a fire a few years ago in my town (No Cali) and they call in the planes at sunset, helicopters too. They just let the fire burn until morning.

However, I didn't notice that when I was watching the recent Malibu fire on the news. I saw helicopters flying at night dropping water. My area is mountainous and has lots of steep canyons and the heavy smoke makes flying over fires dangerous after sunset, it's never done.

17. Need to add
even though they have an extra hour of daylight in the evening, they will have to start up one hour later due to later sunrise in the morning. It was a stupid remark on Fox's part without qualifying it in that sense.
