RNC has pledged to pay the first $10Million in damages....
...resulting from wrongful arrest lawsuits against the St Paul Police.

No link....This was just reported by Amy Goodman on DemocracyNOW!

I'm not a lawyer, but isn't this a conspiracy to violate Civil Rights?

This should be enough to precipitate a Class Action Lawsuit for massive punative damages far exceeding the $10Million from the Republican Party.

Your thoughts?

1. Yes, I believe it is.
Basically, they're almost encouraging the police to arrest people, and someone is going to get hurt. And in the end, the RNC will be sued for far more than $10 million.

4. The people who need to be sued.....
...are the local police agencies, and possibly the individual police officers where they can be identified. "Following Orders" is not a defense.
Suing the RNC won't change anything.

If local police can be held (big time) accountable, they may think twice before going All Gestapo on peaceful protesters or journalists.

11. The "Nuremburg Defense" didn't have legs for the Nazi's, either. You remember how
that played out, no? We hanged them.

21. Attach their pensions with a RICO suit.
These kids get by on less than minimum wage, so will they. Pretty much for the rest of their lives, or as long as they'll have to say they were arrested once on a job application for the rest of their lives.

24. Oh, I disagree. I think suing the RNC is the way to go.
Police departments have been losing these suits for ages-- it doesn't solve anything. Pull that money directly out of the RNC, rather than some government agency that's only going to pass the expense on to taxpayers.

3. It damn well better be more than $10 mil.
They need to send a message that intimidation of the press does not fly in a supposedly free society.

5. I believe this would qualify as a conspiracy to violate the First Amendment of
the Bill of Rights.

Thanks for the thread, bvar22.

Kicked and recommended.

8. a friends daughter...
sued after being arrested and man handled for marching and demonstrating in an antiwar rally a few years ago. With the help of the ACLU she was awarded enough money to put herself through college and is now in law school. she wants to be a civil rights atty...and she will be a good one. Just a fun thing I wanted to share since I love her story. Sure...that is a violation and conspiracy to violate. I hope they all sue and are awarded massive amts...and that the repugs are also massively punished for such an act. What happened, dispite the 10 mil from the repugs, was horrid. By the way, how do Obama and anti war, etc. bumper stickers go over in your neck of the woods? I think I am going to leave to drive out there in about a week.

23. Moving to Canada is no longer an option.
if that 3 Nation No. America plan continues to quietly go into effect.
So far the Trans National Hwy. building is going on, the "agreements" have been signed, etc.

Google "Amero" and see.

14. Cynical admission of guilt.
They are just rubbing our faces in their unconstitutional fascism.

They think they are untouchable.

They have been since 1963. It's time we started pushing back, perhaps.

15. The republicans are evil - there is no good in many of them and this makes the election
even more important. I can't wait for them all to be put back in their places come November; and some of their places include prison.

16. If everyone acted properly......and if the police had as much respect for the
the protesters, as the protesters had for the police, there wouldn't be any need for lawsuits.

Amerika's "let's sue em" attitude is a laughing stock around the globe.

Let's 'get real'! Let common sense rightly rule again!

The 'police' in the badass suits making $40,000/year ain't gonna "ride" that poor salary and that cool looking ego 'forever'? Not many peeps could survive on $40,000/year, right Cindy M?????? *click*

I wish someone could actually pull it off! This might be the thing that gets it into the courts.
