Ok, they are playing music by Heart, how much ya wanna bet...

At the RNC convention, for the sign off part of McCains speech they are playing music by the rock band Heart.

Given that numerous times McCain has used musicians songs in ads and not only didnt get permission but didnt even pay the copyright fee.

Normally i would bet McCain stole the song, but have no idea about Heart band members politics

Anybody happen to know the political leanings of Heart.. or how to find out???

9. Ann watched me shower once.
Just walked into the shower room at the Cotton Bowl, pulled down her sunglasses, watched and grinned.

I was suitably embarassed.

Wilson of Heart Democrats or Republicans?"
Google is my friend! :-)
From TMZ: http://www.tmz.com/2008/09/04/republicans-lack-heart/

"Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."

8. Wow! So Heart protested ahead of time, and McCain used it anyway

Thanks for the link.

They already used it will Palin, and when Heart protests it, then McCain uses it anyway for his big last hurrah fest

What an asshole

I hope they sue him

27. By contrast, Stevie Wonder performed for Obama's acceptance
celebration. And remember when Fleetwod Mac was so honored that the Big Dog chose their song for a theme that they performed at his Inauguration?

If John Lennon were alive today, he would write an Obama song. Oh, wait! He did! It was called "Imagine"

I was in the other room when he was introduced and thought they were playing a recording of him...walked into the room and Stevie doin' Superstition just like as if this were 1972.

I wish they'd do a benefit like the tour of 2004...we have the best rockers and it could be an incredible concert...Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Mellencamp, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Heart, REM, Pearl Jam, DMB...and what does Gramps have? Journey and a whole bunch of bad-ass looking country dudes. He doesn't even have Ted Nugent.

41. There's no way Obama could use "Imagine"..
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Not that Canadians are bad, my own Grandmother was Canadian, but at a Presidential Convention seems a tad inappropriate.

Maybe they'll play "American Woman", too!

This convention has been all about HER....little about him. That's what they want us to do....focus on her.

We need to change this. We need to ignore HER completely & focus on HIM!

20. The band Heart moved to Vancouver for a while in their early days
It may have had something to do with the fact that the guys in the band were all draft eligible at the time, or that's the rumor I've heard. This would have been the early 70's, so that's entirely possible.

I dont doubt you a bit about Ann

And isnt her sister married to the movie director Cameron Crowe?

Between Ann's spunk and Crowes prominence in an industry that deals daily with copyright theft... I wouldn't be surprised to see a lawsuit in the near future.

She even had a cameo in his movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Remember when Brad Hamilton was delivering the fish n chips in the pirate outfit, and was trying to flirt with the "hot chick in the Corvette"??

There are 4 or 5 times I know of that McCain has stolen copyright material.

Jackson Browne is the only one (that i know of) who has actually sued in court.

And now this is just a blatant in your face stealing of someones work

They should all sue, put a stop to it

34. unfortunately, unlike Jackson Browne, Heart probably can't sue
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 12:33 AM by onenote
Jackson Browne could sue because the campaign actually reproduced his song as part of taped ad. But copyright law treats the reproduction of copyrighted music differently than the performance of it. Simply performing a recording of a musical composition in an auditiorium probably doesn't trigger any copyright liability assuming (and its generally a safe assumtpion) that the auditorium has a "blanket license" from the performing rights society (typically ascap or bmi) that has been assigned the right to authorize a song's public performance.

Typically in these situations, where a campaign is asked to stop using a song at rallies, the campaign stops, not because they're worried about legal liability, but rather because the public controversy over their use of the song despite the artist's objections tends to make them look bad.

25. They have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.

Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."

The statement goes on: "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."

We're told Ann was watching TV today and heard the song at the convention when Palin was touted.

UPDATE: Twenty minutes after we posted this story, the GOP ended the evening after McCain's speech with the song, "Barracuda."

I told him that I bet they will be in trouble for using it.

Not to mention, don't they usually try to use rather inspirational and happy sorts of songs for conventions and political events?? "Barracuda"?? Really?? Hubby said, "Have they listened to the lyrics?"

I hope the Wilsons go after him for it.
