I think the real reason why he chose Palin...
...is because no one else would do it. No Republican wanted to be on that loosing ticket. That's all. Now they are trying to make the best out of it and try to spin it like McCain/Palin isn't the most laughable ticket that has been seen in decades.

1. I heard a theory last evening that the reason he picked her was because
her (a female) going after Obama was more palatable to Americans than a white guy.

2. The reason was pandering to the GOP's biggest base: RW Christians who are only concerned with guns,
gays, and God. Palin hits the mark and is a real-life true believer!

3. My thoughts exactly.
I've wondered how many others turned down the "opportunity" before he got a "yes" from Palin.

4. I agree with that.
Mittens and Huckabee at least ran. Somebody wanted them to be President. They wanted the office enough to run for it. McThuseleh alienates his supporters by handing the nom to Barbie on a silver platter. It must be they didn't want to go down with him and want to preserve their credibility for 2012.

6. Choice of Palin? Simple.
McCain's handlers would have chosen any woman on their short list of substitute-Romneys. Reason? To catch the overflow from the former, now-disenfranchised Hillary supporters who let it be known even during the Dem convention that they'd jump ship and swim over to the Republican's yacht simply because they wanted a woman to continue hacking away at that glass ceiling. When the handlers scrolled down the list, they just happened to stop at "P".

I want to see a woman in the white house before I leave this mortal coil, but not on those terms. Not just because she's female. (I am one, btw and been a feminist since the late 60's). It's pandering at it's most obvious. If those former Hillary supporters - or any other women - are too blind to see this for what it is, then it makes me ashamed of my own gender.

8. Welcome to DU and well stated.
As a female, I too would love to see a woman in high power, but someone who has the ability to deal with it. Not this one.
