Not all apply to me but reading the entries on some of these was like looking in a (fun house) mirror.

Bullshit.

I'm about as "white" as they get (when I'm not sun-tanned) without being albino ... and my sole reservation is that he's not liberal enough in his political perspectives.

White people need organic food to survive, and where they purchase this food is as important as what they purchase. In modern white person culture, Whole Foods has replaces churches and cathedrals as the most important and relevant buildings in the community.

snip

These stores are excellent for bringing children, as there is nothing that they actually want.

“Oh, mommy, look chocolate!”

“No Joshua, that’s carob.”

“I want it.”

“Ok.”

The child will then take a bite and realize that nothing in the store can be trusted.

I also replied to it, as shown below:

Hmmmm….I did not know that white people liked socialized medicine. I thought it was just all the OTHER colors of the rainbow since they are so enamored of Obama. I’m white! I’m a capitalist pig! I’m a conservative! I’m tired of paying for everyone else’s healthcare so why would I like socialized medicine?

Then, honey, I trust you’ll be the first to come here and admit just how wrong you are when you are diagnosed with some hideous form of cancer or other disease that hits you out of nowhere like a lightning bolt, whereupon you discover that your great private insurance company has better things to do than pay for your “experimental treatments”.

You will supply us with updates should that happen, right?

Shelly, honey? Are you still there?

On the other hand, I am an enthusiastic Morris dancer, I play the melodeon, I play Dungeons and Dragons, I LARP, I go to ceilidhs and barn dances and I am an folklore enthusiast, all of which I suspect are pretty nearly entirely white concerns.

This list seems very US-centric, and possibly NE US-centric at that.

15. Personally I find some of this to be insulting.
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 12:40 PM by rebel with a cause
sorry, but I find stereotyping any group of people to be objectionable. And some of the things are things that all people should care about, such as Free Healthcare. It also cheapens why we care about it. It says we care about it because Europe has it. I could care less that Europe has it except that it proves it works and we should have it.

My high school days were not bad, they were horrid. So horrid that I dropped out at fifteen. So horrid that I still have nightmares about those days. Now does that makes me more white or less?

Perhaps I am taking it too seriously, but then white people love to be offended. Of course, it is only suppose to be for others, but I have a fairness issue and I feel we are all the same. I am offended by this as much as I would for a list of Stuff Black People like, Stuff Brown People Like, Stuff Asian (Yellow) People Like, and so on and on.

but do it with another ethnic group and see what you get. And read #101 and you will see it says whites do just this. We accept negative things said about ourselves but get outraged when the same is done to another group.

I did a speech one time on the fact that whites are the only people that we are now allowed to make fun off, and how this tactic can be used by those who orchestrate it into a political movement/machine. The example I used was the blond joke and I tied it to the Nazi movement that used Hitler's comical look to throw off the rest of the world from their evil plans. It was no accident that Adolf had the same mustache as Charlie Chaplin. At the end of my speech, those who had been telling blond jokes before the speech were horrified at the thought of what could be happening without anyone taking notice. Well, it did take shape, no one thought that the movement by rove and his party would happen. We laughed bush all the way into the WH. EDITEd to add: And if we continue to make mccain/palin a joke, it could happen again.

Now look at the republicans at the convention and what did you see, a sea of white faces dotted by very few darker ones. This is the whites that will use this same tool to raise the anger of poor white voters who will turn on us so quickly that it will make your head spin.

Always be aware of all things that can be used as weapons by your enemies.

And I never laughed off Rove and Bush...Thought them dangerous from the get go...

Also, I don't think the world was duped by Hitler because of his comical look...absurd.
What did it finally just become too much? "Ok, ok. I know he looks like Chaplin but that killing of Jews and World Domination plans are really the last straw...Hitler is not funny...I would have said something sooner but his funny mustache disarmed all my other senses"

39. Okay, perhaps I should have spelled it out more for you
since you don't seem to understand the concept. The world was not fooled by Hitler in the end, or even in the middle of his conquests, but in the beginning they did not take him serious. It has been documented, don't remember where because this research was done over fifteen years ago, where he copied Chapman's mustache for the comical appearence. It was done so the world would not take him serious in the beginning. By the time the world woke up and did see that he was dangerous, he was already in control of Germany's armies and marching across Europe. This is not absurd, this has been shown in researched reports.

As for bush, rove and cheney. I too thought they were dangerous from the beginning. But who would you rather have a beer with was the top question asked about the candidates and 'good time bush' the guy good for a laugh was always the winner. How many times did the MSM tell us that bush was the man that people identified with because he was a 'good ole boy'. How many people did you hear on tv making jokes about bush. Oh, they did of Kerry also but he was the elitist and bush was the funny uncle/cousin/brother. Today I saw the same poll, 'who would you rather have a beer with'. Guess what, palin was winning the poll hands down and once again the Democrat is being portrayed as an elitist.

As for laughing at yourself, great for you. Personally I make jokes about myself all the time but not about those like me. I don't especially like the group I belong to..I am identified as white, but then I am a misanthrope and don't praticurily like the human kind on the whole. I have children that are not white who have been mistreated by some of those 'white folks' out there, so I have more reason that anyone not to be real fond of my own. But I don't want to give those that would divide and conquer us the chance to use our own ignorance to do so. I also don't respect people that are so closed minded that they don't see the possibility of things presented to them that are not obvious.

This original op was suppose to be funny, and it can be to some. But to me it is also something that can be used like the 'red neck jokes' were used to give us a leader like bush. Only this list puts down who? It is more the liberal elite than anyone. Look at it critically. Look at who it is lampooning. They are saying that 'you don't want to be like this'. It is comical/shameful to be like this. You should not like people like this. JMHO

47. Thanks for the Treatise...but just because you gave a talk about it doesn't mean it holds water
So all the people of that time that wore their mustaches in that style were trying to look like Chaplin to hide their actual intentions? (Japan, Europe, etc.)

Your statement is laughable. Almost as funny as the original post link.

If you knew more about history you would know that Hitler did not use his mustache so as to seem innocuous until he could secure power. That stance shows a complete ignorance of Hitler and the situation that gave rise to him. Rather than post every detail here I'll refer you to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitler

One interesting bit of info I will provide however is,

"Hitler originally sported a longer, "Kaiser"-style moustache( was he trying to hide behind the Keystone Cops image? ). While historians have long assumed that Hitler adopted a toothbrush moustache to follow the style of the time, a recently-recovered essay by writer Alexander Moritz Frey suggests that Hitler was ordered to trim his moustache during World War I—a long moustache would have interfered with the fit of respirator masks worn to protect soldiers from mustard gas attacks."

You go on to say, "I don't praticurily like the human kind on the whole. I have children that are not white who have been mistreated by some of those 'white folks' out there, so I have more reason that anyone not to be real fond of my own."

Look, I'm white. I too have children who are not white. We all encounter mistreatment in our lives but it comes not because of the abuser's race but because of his personality. There are stupid people of all races who do stupid things to others...that is no reason to write off "human kind as a whole". As a matter of fact humor is a great defense against and means of dealing with such things.

54. We will agree to disagree
and I will not insult you as you have me.

My being a misanthrope is not because of hatred or because of what was done to my children, it is based on many things much too complicated to get into here. My feelings are based on distrust and comes not only from my personal life experiences but on what humankind has done throughout history. My feelings are not based on racism or aimed at one group, it is about the human race on a whole, that is what misanthrope is for the most part. Otherwise, I judge people on an individual basis.

My opinion of Hitler was based on academic information from many years ago. I do not base any opinion on what is written on wikipedia, that is a site that has information writen by any individual who wishs to post on it. I might use the site to show a reference for information which is generally known but not to prove what other research might show differently.

As far as humor is concerned, I would not survive life without it, but I know that sometimes what appears humorous can also be deceiving. I gave an opinion on a posting and what it MIGHT relate to, you gave an attack on me personally. Thank you for proving me right to be a misanthrope.

Hope you find this posting humorous also.

Sorry you felt that way. My intension was to rebut your statement. Sorry you took it personally but it was laughable...it made me laugh to think of Hitler scheming to trim his mustache so as to keep his real plan a secret.

I guess I see things through a humorous lens. It's what brings joy to life

(Not to belabor the point but you can find reference to info cited in many placea other than wikipedia if you so desire.)

That is one reason I don't like things like this that much. I personally feel they are more divisive than they are anything. But if you think it shows how alike we are, I will give you kudos for that. Perhaps my anger at the republicans and the MSM is getting to me tonight. That people of other colors largely don't like these things?

So diversity, awareness, Obama, grad school, universal healthcare, etc. are all "white people" things? Bullshit.

Satire this may be, but it's offensive satire that is part of the problem, not part of the solution. I don't think it's the least bit funny, and I don't need to be told to "lighten up." Nobody should lighten up about racial stereotyping--especially the sneaky kind that masquerades as satire.

I think you miss the point of the humor. It is NOT as you suggest that the things listed are all white people things but rather that there is some truth in the observations made as to how some people react to the the topics covered. And, no, it's not true of only whites.

Offensive to you is not offensive to me and I'm white. There is no objectively definable "offensive satire" nor is there any some singular "solution" to problems.

There is however a very objective observable thing called a sense of humor. Some people have one some don't.

45. If those stereotypes were at all true, there wouldn't be a Republican Party
If they called it "stuff hipsters like" or "stuff yuppies like" it might be funny. Their "all white people like this" doesn't really make since given that the majority of white people vote Republican.

48. a few of them are offensive
48 Whole Foods and Grocery Co-ops

Why, because it's expensive? I see a ton of african americans at the whole foods I go to in Chicago and New York. It's even more offensive when most of the employees there are african american.
