LANGHORNE, Pa. - Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden said Friday that contrary to Republicans’ speeches, it is really the GOP ticket that would raise taxes.
In campaign appearances at a union hall in Philadelphia and a middle school in suburban Langhorne, Barack Obama’s running mate said workers whose employers pay part of their health insurance would have the value of that insurance treated as taxable income under Republican nominee John McCain’s plan.
"I think that is simply unfair. It is just not fair," Biden said at the school, getting loud applause.
Biden said Obama’s economic plan would cut taxes for all but the wealthiest Americans. He said those earning more than $435,000 a year would pay more under the Obama plan. He said the wealthy can afford to have their tax burden increased.
"They’re patriotic," Biden said at the union hall, speaking of the wealthy. "The problem is we don’t ask enough of them."

“Jill and John are standing up on the tables, drinking Ouzo, dancing, and I’m thinking, I’ve never trusted him since then, Jillie!”
All joking aside, Biden insisted, “My argument is not with John the man, my argument is with John’s ideas.”
Reflecting on the Republican National Convention he was able to catch on television, Biden began a slow boil.
Talking directly to middle-class voters, Biden asked, “How many of you sweated bullets figuring out how they’re going to get tuition so they can start in August?” asked Biden, pointing his finger. “That’s what middle class people think about!”

"It was deafening on jobs, on health care, on environment, on all the things that matter to the people in the neighborhoods I grew up in!" roared the Scranton-born senator as the audience rose to their feet.
"Ladies and gentlemen," he continued, his voice lifting over the cheers. "Their America is not the America I live in, they see something different than I see.
"Do any of you recall either candidate on the Republican ticket utter the phrase middle class?" he asked the crowd.
"No!" they yelled back in unison . . .

"My friend John and George Bush are joined at the hip, and we need a hip replacement very, very badly," Biden said.
He also hammered the GOP on its call for change.
"They just announced the unemployment figures nationwide. For the eighth month in a row, Americans have lost jobs. We have lost 604,000 jobs in America just this calendar year.," Biden said.
"I'm so tired of these loose Republican words being used out there about change and how they care about you. Give me a break," Biden said.
