Hannaaaaaaaa ........... whoosh ........... pffffft ...........
Well that was the fastest major storm in a whole lot of years. It was dead calm and drizzly overnight here, just west of Baltimore. By noon we had torrential rains and some wind gusts. By 3.00 we had some bigger wind gusts, but broken clouds and some rain squalls. By 5.00 I was out at the grill getting ready for supper.

Here it is now, 9.00 and it appears the thing is up in the NYC area. It got from here to there faster than I have ever been able to drive that distance.

2. Here in Norther Virginia,
it dallied for more than 12 hours, but it was all heavy rain - we got 6-8 inches during that time. No wind to speak off. And then it was gone.

8. I think it took a hard right in Beltsville and dashed for the Eastern Shore
I know you guys got way more than we did. Apart from the three or so hours of hard rain, ours was a nice, gentle soaker.

9. We're still in Flood Watch conditions,
and, earlier, there was a tornado watch. But none of it came to pass.

This is really good for NY and New England.

Now, there is Ike, and it looks like that sucker is aimed right at Key West and New Orleans. Looks like a real monster, too.

11. Yeah, Ike looks damned scary.
Does New Orleans have a meteorological magnet on the roof of the Canal Place hotel?

3. I was watching on radar
The eye of the storm went right up just east of I95 through Maryland...then the eye went right over NYC. Weird to see that. Now headed to NE.

I used to live in Balmer. Loved that area.

6. Here in NYC we had some light rain overnight...from Fri to Sat. It was overcast most of the day.

After 2PM or so, we had some intermittent periods of rain...some were pretty heavy, and there was one time that there were some heavy gusts of wind.
I live right next to the ocean, and usually when there is a big storm, the water is crazy, whitecaps, big waves, etc. This morning the water was calm. It got a little rougher, but there were no white caps, and no big waves. The water just got less calm, but not greatly disturbed.
Right now it is drizzling....
No lightning, no thunder..no damage, no flooding.
I hope that every where it hit, it was this glancing.

7. Up here in Northern Montgomery County......it's wet
and the creeks were high and traffic was light and the lines in the Grocery Store were minuscule and the gym was near empty and we got seated in the nice room at Clyde's Tower Oaks Lodge for dinner even with our loud 2 year old and some branches came down on River Road.....

all in all, a nice day......

12. A Martini, Wings, Salad, a Bacon Cheeseburger and Peach Cobbler
Wife had Crab Cakes and the Mint Ice Cream Sandwich, Boy had Crab Dip and a Burger, Girl had Mac and Cheese (now from Kraft, it used to be the excellent real soul food type but I'll bet kids complained) Toddler had one of the olives from my martini (she loves them - it was the top one, not soaking in the booze), strawberries, french fries, assorted parts of everyone else's dinner and dessert....

I want my house to look like their back bar....eventually.

and they do make a very fine burger. Everything on the menu went up about a dollar in the last month or so.......

They also make the best damned Grilled Cheese Sandwich offered on any kid's menu....
