27. "Improvements" is the standard appraiser/ real estate term for houses, sheds, etc.
What is "improved" over an empty lot. This whole thread may be about nothing.

... when you brought in $27 million in earmarks.

6. Verry interesting.
The home improvement angle was always interesting to me in the Stevens story. Because people always like to remodel your house for free or greatly reduced rates. I mean, I am always bumping into that, aren't you?

16. It's an old Alaska tradition, remember
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 10:37 AM by nichomachus
(CBS/AP) Sen. Ted Stevens, the longest-serving Republican senator and a figure in Alaska politics since before statehood, was indicted Tuesday on seven counts of failing to disclose thousands of dollars in services he received from a company that helped renovate his home.

Sarah Palin was on the 527 committee that tried to cover up for Ted -- now we know why.

(Is this deferential enough?)

Kind of a critical piece of information.

As well as the improvements. What were they?

How about some facts and details rather than mere bloviations.

18. Property tax rules are really different in different places.

It might be one of those deals where new valuations don't occur unless an improvement is made or the property is sold. The new assessed value might include equity over years plus the improvement.

Or it could be due to something sketchy.

21. I think it may just be a different house.
Online address lookups show Todd Palin with a 2003 address on Westpoint Drive in Wasilla. Current houses for sale on that street are listed at $172,000 or a little higher.

But the 2004 address on Parks Highway comes up on zillow.com with a 2006 assessed value of $526,800.

I'm going to look into this a little more, but my guess is they simply moved to more luxurious digs.

(Hmmm, that's odd. Half of Wasilla is blurred out on Google maps. Creeping Cheney-itis?)
