Time to Revive McCain's Support for the Dubai Port Deal
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 09:00 PM by louis c
first off, I want to explain that my position against the February, 2006 deal to hand our port security over to a Dubai company which is controlled by the UAE is because I believe that security is a governmental function. I don't even want to privatize it to American companies, never mind a foreign one. However, politically speaking, this issue is a winner for us.

McCain's support for this deal strikes right at the heart of his "Country First" theme. His support to outsource our refueling planes to France, his support for the trade agreements that have decimated our industrial base, and his support for tax breaks for companies who ship our jobs overseas, certainly contradicts that slogan.

But back to Dubai. This is something that hits his base. This is something that us pointy-headed intellectuals seem to shy away from. That's the easy to understand position that strikes at the heart of the blue-collar workers who can only be convinced in one minute sound bites.

To refresh your memory, the Bush administration approved of handing over our security of America's major ports to a sovereign company from the UAE, specifically Dubai. Here are some facts about the United Arab Emirates. (1). Two of the hijackers that attacked us on 9/11/01 were citizens if the UAE. One can only be a citizen of that country if you are born there of UAE parents. There is no nationalization, because of the nation's wealth. (2). Half the money used by the terrorists was traced to banks owned by the UAE (the other half was Saudi). (3). The Taliban protected al Qaeda in Afghanistan while they plotted to attack us. Only three countries, prior to 9/11/01/, recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government og Afghanistan. they were Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. Using the the formula that was used by the Bush Administration to invade Iraq as a yardstick, seeing that no hijacker was Iraqi, no connection to al Qaeda existed with Iraq, and no money was exchanged by them. Using that criteria, one could make a better case for bombing Dubai than handing our port security over to them.

Yet Mr. "Country First", John McCain, marched lock step with Bush in this very confusing deal.

Liberal Democrats, like Chuck Schumer, exposed this deal and helped stop it.

Let's see John Stanley McCain explain his support for this deal as we march toward election day.

1. THIS IS A BIG ISSUE IF THEY WANNA GO WITH IT
show the terrorists trying to get into buildings and things around water, and say how McCain walked lockstep with B*sh on the Dubai Ports Deal to give over control of our ports to FOREIGNERS!

I don't want Obama playing soft with these idiots with commercials, in person, I understand he wants to show a positive man who would make a great president with the occasional dig at McCain, but commercials should hit hard on the truth of their horrible choices!

2. Very good idea...
...we should also remind voters how Bush and our then republican-led House and Senate turned around two months later and allowed Dubai to take over nine of our military plants.

Bush Set to Approve Takeover of 9 Military Plants by Dubai
By JIM RUTENBERG and DAVID E. SANGER

WASHINGTON, April 27 — President Bush is expected on Friday to announce his approval of a deal under which a Dubai-owned company would take control of nine plants in the United States that manufacture parts for American military vehicles and aircraft, say two administration officials familiar with the terms of the deal. .....

4. It was McCain's own state of Arizona where al-Qaeda first set up shop in the U.S. in 1996
just a year after McCain and another Arizona senator presented a "freedom fighter" award to a Taliban chief. And a few years after that, al-Qaeda members were taking flying lessons...in Arizona.

Just a sign of what will happen on McCain's watch.

7. They hate the UN because "we're giving up or national sovereignty"...

yet they sell of our economic and infrastructure sovereignty without a qualm or even a pause.

Imagine that.

"Strong on national security", my ass. "Massive defense spending" ≠ "strong on national security" and never will.

9. I found this article pertaining to McCain backing Bush on the port deal...
Bush to Fight for Port Deal
By Richard Simon and Peter Wallsten
February 22, 2006 in print edition A-1

snip...

And Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) urged his colleagues to “take a moment and not rush to judgment.”

“The president’s leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short,” McCain said in a statement.
