I'm a blue collar, white, ethnic, over 50, male. Strong labor issues all the time.
I remember when Reagan ran in 1980. Oh, he'd never hurt labor or working people. After all, he used to be a labor leader himself (actor's guild). Never mind that RWR wasn't an advocate of worker's rights, he set the labor movement back 50 years.
Then, Clarence Thomas was appointed to the Supreme Court, and Republicans touted his race as an opening for the "broad minded new Republicans". yet Mr. Thomas has set African-American rights back a whole generation.
Now, the Republicans want to foist Sarah Palin on us. She's against all the rights that women have had to fight to advance for two generations. The right to choose and to control their own bodies, the most fundamental of all rights. She supports a party, and is a running mate with a man who actually voted against strengthening laws that would allow women to reclaim equal pay for equal work.
I've been watching this show since 1968. The Republicans have become masters at convincing important electoral blocks to vote against their own best interests, and they laugh at us all the way to the bank. I fear it may be happening again. I've been fighting this for 40 years. It's getting old, and I'm getting tired. I hope they won't fool us again.
