How on earth can this election be SO CLOSE??
How on earth are people not running away from McCain?? I just don't get it.. and I still don't get "I'm glad bush won it would have been a ton worse if Kerry won"
Have I been living in the same country with these people for the last year or in twilight zone???

Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 10:42 AM by sshan2525
It is close because the American voting public contains a disproportionate bunch of stupid/poorly informed/racist/lazy & selfish ass-hats who are more concerned about football and who is going to win Dancing with the Stars than the fact that this country is being flushed down the shitter by same people that will pll Gramps puppet strings. We're fucked, people.

29. You should ask them why it's a problem if he is.
It's something I've been wondering about. Article 6 of the Constitution says that no religious test shall be required for public office, so I wonder why the "Obama is a Muslim" crowd hates the Constitution so much.

41. Misinterpretation
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 01:14 PM by KneelBeforeZod
I think you've misinterpreted the Constitution.

The Constitution says there can be no religious test for ELIGIBILITY for President (like there are tests for natural born citizens, age, etc). I have not heard right-wingers say that Obama is ineligible because they think he's a Muslim -- I've heard them say he won't get their vote because they think he's Muslim.

There can be whatever arbitrary test each individual voter wants to concoct to determine whom they will vote for. They may be bigoted, but they're not going against the Constitution. They can vote for whomever they choose (provided their candidate is eligible), for whatever hair-brained reason (for instance -- "hey, she's pretty ... I think I'll vote for her"), without violating the Constitution.

39. Here you go, my friends.....
and just to prove what I said above, here's a sad (albeit funny) post from today's Wonkette that shows why we're in deep doo-doo.

Joe Biden has one job this election: to get the Bitters in Pennsylvania to vote for a black Muslim. That is literally all he has to do. Maybe Ohio, too, but mostly Pennsylvania, because he was of course born there! In Scranton, the famous town where Happiness goes to die. On Friday, he went to Northeast Philadelphia — “The Scranton of Philadelphia” — to meet some old white folks and tell ‘em about Barry. He even kissed some old gal on the forehead, but she was disgusted, because there’s a huge stumbling block among these “white ethnics” Joe Biden is targeting: they really, really hate black people.

Joe Biden tried so hard with these folks. He even told them that Barry would end the “war on unions,” a term that only exists when you’re pandering to old working-class white people. And then he slobbered his nigra-loving saliva all over some old dame:

In a corner booth, Biden sat down and, after a moment’s conversation, planted a kiss on the forehead of Carolyn Bauer, age 89. Bauer explained afterward it wasn’t such a friendly encounter.

“I told him I’m not going to vote for him,” Bauer said. “Anybody who runs with a guy with a name like that is not going to get my vote. It’d be disgusting to get a man named Barack Obama as president of the United States. No way. I mean it … I’m going to vote for McCain and the lady.”

a Muslim,” Bauer added. “He pretends to be a Christian, and he isn’t, he’s a Muslim.”

Wait until Bauer hears about his middle name. Or when she hears that “the lady” has a name at all.

Screw the southern states — Pennsylvania is absolutely the most racist state in America. Add up the entire population of the “Republican T” in the central and northern parts of the state, plus working class neighborhoods in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and you’ve got 10 times as many racists living and breathing, at any given time, than there have ever been in the rest of the world throughout history. The rest of the state is just like black people and 15-20 elitist snobs. Good luck, Catholic Joe!

18. McCain is a popular politician
he's a Washington "celebrity" with a myth around him of a maverick. I used to like him when I didn't know anything about him and I thought the myth was true.

I don't think people automatically associate him with Bush and the republicans, even though he's a republican. I think Obama will have to keep working on linking them.

19. It only needs to APPEAR close.. Media spins it close to cover for cheating
and to drum up viewership..

Who would watch daily for the happenings if one candidate was 20 points up?

The whole Hillary drama was totally media-driven..It was mathematically impossible for her to win, after the 12 state sweep back in Feb, but the media HAD to keep the interest up, so they spun it as "she can still win".."It's close"..and that;s why we have so many pissed off people who kept voting for her, thinking she could still "do it".. they are mad at the way things turned out, and it's all because they were duped by the media, and are blaming Obama..

Does anyone think he WANTED to spend all that time and money continuing to run after the had "won it"?? He had to keep going, because as long as the media SAID it was "close" he HAD to ..

Most of those "18million" votes would have been cast for HIM..(some would have stayed home, but you know what I mean), if Hillary had dropped out in a timely manner..

the toying with of emotions, is the meanest thing media does..

are run by the same Reich-wingers that Run FOX, CNN, MSNBC, etc, etc, etc

Look at what just happened to KO - Remember what happened to Donahue

Remember Diebold, Sequoia, E&S

Remember Armstrong Williams, etal

What makes you think the Polling companies are any different?

They HAVE to make it look close so that the crime they are about to commit seems plausible - so you don't pick up a gun and take to the streets.

26. Obama is way ahead in the Electoral College.
As I've said before, to win, Obama only needs to carry every state Kerry did, plus one more. With so many previously Republican-safe states in play this year, that shouldn't be too hard. But we shouldn't be complacent. We'll have to fight, and fight dirty. We need some independent agencies making things very ugly for McCain and Palin. Agencies that have no connection to Obama, so he can't be blamed for what goes out. Let's get in there and stop the shit out of the Fossil and the School-marm. That's a lot of stompin' because it's a lot of shit; but let's do it.

For a lot of people, the most important issues are banning abortion, restricting gay rights, cutting taxes and continuing the occupation of Iraq.

The biggest problem is the issues.

(The second biggest problem is Sarah Palin, with whom the Democrats haven't yet worked out how to cope).
