I have to ask, because I'm just not sure anymore.

1. If you have to ask,
you know the answer.....and it's not pretty.

Your leaders are chosen for you, and this long-term circus allows them to do so.

3. We have no more say in who our leaders are than you did over who your third grade
teacher was.

4. Few people in this country have both the financial means
and inclination to run for high public office. For instance, I have the means to run for the House in my state, but not the inclination (or the squeaky clean background). More often, people have the inclination but none of the means.

People generally start out modestly in local offices. They are approached by groups of businessmen, professional organizations or (rarely) unions and offered the means to try for higher office. In this way, our leaders are chosen for us. We simply need to follow the money and choose whichever we feel will best represent us. Sometimes the choice is difficult, as in a candidate backed by banks versus a candidate backed by oil. In that case, the best we can do is change gangs of thieves and hope for a better choice the next time.

100% public financing of extremely abbreviated campaigns is the answer, of course, but this country has gone so far down the road of corporate oligarchy that only a revolution will get us that.
