Biden calls Palin's views "fairly extreme' and "pretty far out there"
September 8, 2008

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Biden told a town hall meeting of about 1,000 people that he and his running mate, Sen. Barack Obama, would make it their mission to restore the middle class if elected in November. The message was well received by the crowd in northeast Wisconsin, where paper companies have announced plans to lay off hundreds of workers in recent months.

Biden was introduced by Greg Hinds, a union worker who is losing his job at Hoffmaster Group Inc. in Appleton along with 300 colleagues next year in a downsizing. The Delaware senator said he and Obama would put people back to work building infrastructure like roads and bridges and would support tax and trade policies to keep jobs in the United States.

Biden said the Bush administration has failed in that regard, noting the 6.1 percent unemployment rate is the highest in five years.

"I've never seen so many people knocked down in America with so little attention paid by their government as to how to help them get back up," he told the crowd at the KI Convention Center. "I don't know whether they come from families who have ever lost jobs. You lose your job, you lose your sense of your own dignity and you lose a sense of your own self worth."

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin gave a good convention speech last week but has "fairly extreme views" that she'll have to defend in the coming weeks, Democratic counterpart Joe Biden said here today.

Palin's reported stance on global warming - that she's skeptical about man-made causes - is "pretty far out there," if the early reports on her are accurate, Biden said at a town hall meeting at Green Bay's KI Convention Center.

In other remarks during a wide-ranging, 50-minute session, Biden said the assertion by Palin and Republican presidential candidate John McCain that they would bring about change in policy from President Bush's administration was incorrect.

"Name me a single issue that affects your life - jobs, health care, education, energy - where McCain and Palin disagree with the president," Biden told a crowd of about 700. "If you liked the last eight years, you'll like the next four years of a McCain-Palin administration, because there is no fundamental change."

1. Hammer that message home
Fairly extreme, out of the mainstream, out of touch with reality... on global warming, abortion, creationism. Out of touch and extreme...

2. We need to drop the softening words.
Palin's views aren't "fairly extreme," they're just plain EXTREME.

She's not "pretty far out there," she's FAR OUT THERE.

3. Her views are very extreme.
I would say that she is probably just this side of the white supremacists.

People need to pay attention to how extreme her views are - and what kind of people she is drawing to the ticket.

4. Banning books, seceding from the USA, yup.
People wouldn't be so enamored with her if they knew the whole story. Gotta go on the offensive - make her (and McCain) address these extremist views.

7. You stole my thunder, Trotsky
first thing I thought of when I saw his words.

How about: EXTREMIST LIAR?

or: SO FAR OVER TO THE RIGHT SHE'S IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE?

What the hell is the matter with Democrats?

14. It's almost like they're easing the voters into it
Give them time to adjust to voting for an extremist. :banghead:

13. Agreed. "Pretty" and "Fairly" mute the message -- same as saying McCain's a "nice guy". . .
If we're to use adjectives, make 'em strong: Palin is VERY extreme and her ideas are UNACCEPTABLY far out. And there's NOTHING good about John McCain in 2008.

5. He needs to say, "If your daughter were to get raped, Palin wants her to have
NO CHOICE but to go to term and have the rapist's baby."

Be specific, Joe.

9. he has been specific. Joe's a talker.
Don't assume that everything he's said is what's reported. I have to dig for this stuff. Better to wait and see a transcript or account of his full remarks before throwing out disparaging criticisms.

8. If Todd Palin raped his daughter and got her pregnant, Sarah Palin would want her to have the baby.
I think I'd call that more than just "fairly extreme."

11. I'm sure he wouldn't call that "fairly" extreme either. Be fair.
He was speaking, in that sentence, to her views in general, which, I'm sure, run the gamut from extremely wacky republican to "fairly" wacky republican.

15. Fuck the "qualifier" words
This is pansy-ass Kerry-like talk. Sorry if that offends people, but I am really pissed at the spot we are in at this time.

17. when you couple her extreme views with a pitbull demeanor
that's a dangerous combination... I'm concerned she'll be more apt to act without thinking.

we don't need another 4 more years of someone who shoots blindly from the hip

18. I agree, she is an extremist denying the reality of man made global warming climate change and

she believes in governing along the same stay in the dark secrecy approach as Dick Cheney.

Combine the two and I see another corporate oil puppet being enabled to power.

Kicked and recommended.

Thanks for the thread, bigtree.

19. yep, the kicker is that she's denying the environmental science to enable the oil industry
. . . and pave the way for development of land she insists is "barren," therefore, not deserving of wilderness protections.
