In all seriousness, if you know anyone who lives on the Gulf Coast who would need help evacuating or just can't afford the gas/hotel, please ask them to call and register with 211. They will be given information concerning evacuation issues, shelters, locations from which buses will be leaving, etc.

I hope people don't try to ride out the storm this time. Many were angry after evacuations were called for Gustav and FEMA/insurance refused to reimburse for hotel expenses. With the price of gas and the trouble of evacuating, a lot of people have said they wouldn't/couldn't go again. I hope they stay safe.

1. We had to evacuate for Gustav, and they're expecting

to call for us to evacuate again maybe Wednesday. (I'm in SE Texas.) I know a lot of people who got stuck in traffic jams 8-12 hours evacuating for Gustav that are planning to just stay home this time for that reason. Very scary. I don't know why they've turned evacuating into a worse traffic nightmare than it has to be by blocking off so many main roads, etc. During Rita, they were trying to force everyone to go North, which is where Rita was HEADING. I mean, geez, just let everyone leave!
