RIVIERA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Police in Riviera Beach, Fla., have made at least four arrests for violations of the city's new baggy pants ordinance, records indicate.

The statute that went into effect in mid-July prohibits wearing pants so low that undergarments or skin are exposed.

The first person arrested under the new regulation was Jose Eisenberg, 20, of West Palm Beach, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Monday. He was stopped by police July 31 for showing 3 inches of purple boxer shorts.

Morrius Bleau, 18, was on his way home from church one Sunday when he was arrested for violating the ordinance.

"I understand people don't like underwear showing over pants. I don't like it. But … it is constitutionally protected," says John Pauly, chairman of the Palm Beach County American Civil Liberties Union.

If women can let their tit-crack show, men should be able to let their ass-crack show. This is a sexist ordnance designed at targeting young hot men.

Either they ban cleavage AND bikinis AND speedos as well as droopy drawers, or none of the above.

I think baggy saggy pants look stupid but to pass a law banning them is even more stupid.

Don't they have any real crime in Riviera Beach?

The law is a city ordinance.

Teens do something out of laziness (like forget to wear a belt).

Adults apparently forget what it's like to be a teen and rather than ignore it flip out about it, guaranteeing teens will continue to do it.

Don't they have other, more important, ordinances to enforce? Like the one about not dancing on Sundays or parking your horse too close to the boardwalk?

I thought they would never go lower that the side of the hips that helps hold them up. Any lower and your pants will fall down.

But I see guys holding there pants up with one hand and in cases where they need two hands they take a very wide stance and to keep the pants from falling down.

That seemed low but then went lower. I thought they'd never go lower than their privates area. Wrong again. They go so low that they are wearing their pants completely below their butt and below their crotch area and they are basically running around in there underwear.

Don't much care about it. But I'm amazed how low they can go. I guess they will continue to go lower until they have them at knee level.

Arresting someone for showing their underwear is extreme.

Is it supposed to give back up to moms that need it with teenagers? I could have used some when my kid dressed that way in his senior year. It just seems like overkill and just putting more young men at risk of building an arrest record for something that should be handled without police contact.

I cannot believe they wasted the time it took to quit laughing at such a preposterous idea, to actually make that law. What next? Are they going to legislate that you have to be at least that stupid to live in that town after such a stupid law as that?

At first I thought that it was yet another way to funnel young black men into jails.

But, it's a black community, 68%.

Maybe they're having trouble with gangs coming in or something. The law probably won't stand. I'm curious now about what the city was hoping it would do for them.

They look cool too! Plaid "undies" of various hues and patterns but they fasten at the hip with no actual undies showing.
