WFU Study Finds Prescription Samples Cost Patients More In The Long Run

(WINSTON-SALEM) -- A new study from Wake Forest University finds that free drug samples may save patients money now, but it will cost them more later. The study looked at how 70 North Carolina doctors used free sample medications.

A team led by Dr. David Miller at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center found that those samples do impact what drugs those physicians prescribe. The samples are usually higher cost brand names, so Miller says once the drug is prescribed it costs low income patients more when they have to buy the drugs themselves.

Docs don't get generic samples, patient needs samples so get name brand and have to prescribe them that brand.

I could be totally wrong of course, just a guess.
