So all of management had to watch an anti-union video today
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 05:39 PM by TwixVoy
At work we all had a meeting and had to watch an anti-union video today. There is going to be another one that all the regular employees have to watch.

I have NEVER seen the company this concerned about unions before. This is going to be mandatory at every store this month.

Right before the video we were going over just how bad the sales numbers were.

I think the company is VERY concerned about where the economy is going. The fact they are all of a sudden getting seriously concerned about unions (more so than usual) tells me the people at the top suspect that regular people are going to be so screwed over soon that they are going to start demaninding a piece of the giant pie the ultra rich have right now.

The video kept saying that regular employees need to know that "having a union won't help them pay the bills, help them get higher wages or better benefitis".

Get ready folks. Based on the sales numbers I am seeing it looks like the sh** is going to hit the fan for the economy come fourth quarter.

1. Are you with Wal-Mart?
"A vote for Obama, is a vote for (commie pinko) Unions." Eh, let 'em worry people aren't buying. For Christmas gifts just go in the woods and get sticks, glue together to make funky airplane no one can afford to fly anyway.

2. Can I ask you what company this is? It's obviously a retailer.
If it would cause you any trouble, just ignore my request.

"Based on the sales numbers I am seeing it looks like the sh** is going to hit the fan for the economy come fourth quarter."

You mean it hasn't already?

4. Twixvoy PM the inquirers about name of company
You never know....

Could it be a big box store, a dept. store or a chain discounter? Answering this is safe.

The fact that management is scared could be a good sign for us all. Of course a union would help employees. No doubt about it.

6. I won't say exactly where for obvious reasons
but big box.

Yes I figure either the corporate executives are worried republicans won't win OR they are worried the economy will get so bad people will finally start to DEMAND things get better. Either of the two has to be the cause for concern.

5. TwixVoy, there is no need to name the company.
It's still fucked up.

Be careful, ok, and keep posting from the front lines.

8. One benefit of Unions that is hardly ever mentioned...
it takes you from being an "At Will" employee to one under contract.

HUGE difference from a legal standpoint as well as job security.

9. I hope all the managers in the room realized that they are next!
American workers, whether they be white or blue collar, are endangered species and most are hardly aware of it. Tsunamis usually come as a series of waves. The first wave has already carried away a huge chunk of America's manufacturing base and the second, larger wave is about to sweep away America's denial that we can spend like drunken sailors using credit forever without consequence.

I think, as a manager, a union would INCREASE your job security rather than lessen it. Let the workers decide in a free and fair election.
