Question for our postal service men and women on DU.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 06:19 PM by The Backlash Cometh
How odd is it for a mailperson at the counter to take your mail and start to bend it every which way? I was mailing a pamphlet in an ordinary business letter size envelope and the mail person asked me straight up if it was my finger prints. I said, what? He said is it something that's bendable or foldable. Before answering, I was trying to figure out why anyone in the mailroom would want to fold my mail and sputter, "It's a pamphlet." And the person starts bending my mail! Finally, I ask, what are finger prints? Why would anyone want to mail their finger prints? And he said, For a concealed weapon permit.

Is it just me, or is this screening a bit intrusive?

1. If it doesn't bend,
You have to pay the rate for a parcel. Something to do with their machinery in sorting it.

I mailed a slim cd in bubble warp envelope & they checked it and I paid the parcel rate.

4. Oh, thank you!
These days I value the simple, reasonable answers, because there's SOOOO much to freak over without sweating the little things.

Welcome to DU.

2. You should have told him that you were getting a concealed weapon permit
and then you were going to come back and go postal on him.

We would then send you bail money. Or a cake to Gitmo.

6. Stupid
is what i would call it, I am a carrier so I don't have much action with these people. But are actually very parinoid about every thing. Most of them are still wearing rubber gloves and mask's. His or her question was totally inapopriate. But these are the people that us carriers a bad name. Been a postman for almost 30 years.

7. I find all kinds of strange things happen in that particular post office.
Very Republican city and, I suspect, they like to keep the level of paranoia high.
