(Is Obama) Too Cool to Fight?
Too Cool to Fight?

By Richard Cohen
Tuesday, September 9, 2008; Page A23

Thank God for Sarah Palin. Without her jibes, her sarcasm, her exaggerations, her smug provincialism, her hypocrisy about family and government, her exploitation of mommyhood, and her personal attacks on Barack Obama, the Democratic base might never be consolidated. This much is certain: Obama could never do it.

Not, anyway, the Obama who appeared Sunday on ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos. That Obama was cool, diffident, above it all -- unflustered, unflappable, unexcitable and downright unexciting. These "uns" ran on, a torrent of cool that frosted my flat-panel TV and had me wondering if, as a kid, Obama ever got a shot in the mouth on the playground, he'd glare at the bully -- and convene a meeting.

1. Proof positive Cohen never bothered to read Obama's books. Too
bad. He might have more insight than he does.

And I prefer cool and unflappable for a president. Intelligence works also. What exactly is his gripe?

4. He's a weird guy

Extremely conceited. I think he's had a forum writing in a major paper so long it's made him intellectually lazy. If Obama was an even slightly louder person guys like Cohen would be screeching about him being an "angry black man." I had to stop reading Cohen long ago, he's long on Beltway arrogance, short on national pulse. I just couldn't read somebody who has that much certainty with so little viable rationale. I think it happens from being in an insulated world so long.

5. May I say, at this late hour, when DTV's channel 833 rock and roll
classics are going into motion, that I do appreciate you and your insight, Wetzelbill.
Had I been privy earlier to you and your campaign, I surely would have voted for you!

2. How pathetic
"What are you chicken to fight?"

Schoolyard taunts, that's all they have. They are bankrupt.

3. It's really messed up that he's caught in the middle...
tonight I said to my husband that he needs to get angry, get upset, yell! Do something! And my husband explained to me that he cannot really do that. As a black man he will be perceived as something so scary to push him away from whites that can accept him the way he is now...reserved. I don't really know about this one but I'm getting kind of frustrated. I don't want him to assume that all people in this country are as informed as we are and will not believe the bullshit MCCain is spinning. Part of me thinks that we need only deal with those undecided voters. Any person that is supporting the republican ticket is nuts and crazy already.
