I don't know for sure, but it seems like these are viable sources.

3. It's chic to have a crazy name
Among all the other things elementary school teachers have had over the past 20 or 30 years, opening up the enrollment list on the first day and trying to pronounce some of the names has got to be among the stupidest.

Not just the names themselves, the spellings. I know a Jaime who pronounces it Jamie, for example.

31. Bingo!
No, not a suggestion for child #6 :)

But I can hear the announcer saying, "Here she is, Willow Palin - Miss Alaska!

Piper Palin sounds like an aspiring starlet's name, one who will make her film debut in a movie version of a popular 80s sitcom and then disappear from sight, only to show up on infomercials.

Or they may turn out to be nice, normal young women, like most people with unusual names. And look where Condaleeza Rice ended up!

30. Parent get to choose the names their kids have to live with a whole lifetime.. be careful
I had the "unusual name" in the family, and have spent a lifetime having to pronounce it, spell it..and rarely get mail addressed correctly..

I would have given anything to be Mary or Susan or Jane.:)

If parents love unusual names, they should go to court and change their own

That's what nicknames are for..

Name the kid Robert Steven , and call him Pookoolie
Name her Jessica Marie and call her ShooShoo..

I imagined my sons' names on business cards or on an office door.. Our son Steven was called "the beebs"..Michael was called Mookie, but I would have NEVER "given" them a nicknamish name..those are earned :)

11. Can you imagine if a Democratic candidate had kids with names like that?
The media would berate them endlessly, and make them a laughingstock -- the family would be stereotyped as some sort of "pinko pot-smoking hippies."

Getting pretty sick of the double standard in the "liberal" media. :grr:

16. I posted about this earlier.
The names are another way of massaging her ego.

Track - she was into sports as a kid (possibly snowmachine reference)
Trig - She is into guns (sort for trigger maybe. Middle name is named for one of her favorite places in Ak -Paxson).
Bristol - Named after Bristol Bay (were they fish in the summer time)
Willow - named after one of her favorite places in AK
Piper - she is into flying (piper airplane)

19. You'd think a supposed Christian extremist like Palin would give her
kids Biblical names or names denoting a virtue like Hope, Grace, etc.

The names she's chosen sound more like something out of a commune in the 60's.

I'm wondering how much of her religious wingnutness is sincere and how much is politically calculated.
