CERN and Global Climate Change, two sides of the same coin...
First I have to say, I just can't believe the level of "chicken little-ness" that I have observed today on DU. GET. A. GRIP.

now on to the discussion at hand.

there are the ultra right winger nut jobs out there that continue to deny Climate Change was caused by human in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

now we are being treated to more of the same insanity with the CERN test.

The world is going to explode! we are going to get sucked into a black hole!!! everything we hold near and dear will be gone!!! My ipod!!!

This massive distrust of intelligence and science is down right, pardon the expression, fucking medieval.

What the hell is going on with people?

I will tell you.

when moron* was selected for prezzz, the discourse in this nation came completely off the rails.

Currently, I'm reading a book called Lab 257. It's about the Animal Disease Research Center located off the coast of Long Island on Plum Island. Back then during a REPUBLICAN administration, science was herald as the solution to solve all of mankind's ills.

Now fast forward to the present.

As ignorant as the statement is that, "science will solve all our ills", appears on the surface, what we face today is a level of anti-intellectualism that is down right frightening.

It's as if the new phrase is, "science will destroy everything!"

The moral course, the ethical course and the intellectual course of this nation was set in stone 8 years ago by a failing yale student who no doubt passed via his fathers influence, with a C. His* basic inability to think beyond the box is self evident by his* failure to increase research and scientific funding for this nation under his* term.

And the message that is pushed by the republican party is basically this, "we don't need no stinking high forehead PhD's to tell us how to live our lives!!"

This very apparent level of willful ignorance is championed as the right direction of this nation.

As a result, the republicans put dullards and ignorant candidates up for election.

What this presidential race is about; it's not the right against the left, not the dems against repubs. It's about intelligence against ignorance.

We will witness the basic dismantling of our society of those two ignorant fools take over this nation.

We desperately need a return to rationality. No, we require it.

I believe that the constant marketing assault to our "reptilian" brains is partly responsible as well. People are "de-volving" so to speak, back to superstition, fear, ignorance as they are brainwashed to only trust their animal instincts. (Not to denigrate animals of course).

There is a great BBC series called Century of the Self (google video available) that documents some of this. Basically we are not very civilized or "advanced" as a species, never have been... We just fool ourselves.
