EFCA ACT *Must* Get Passed! The retailer I work for is freaking about Obama
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 11:42 AM by TwixVoy
Some here may remember a post I recently made about an anti-union video the company is forcing all management and regular employees to watch at the particular big box company I work for. (use your imagination)

The stuff they are sending to us in management is almost threatening. They are careful NOT to say it, but they STRONGLY suggest that if we in management don't oppose any union attempts we will be out on our ass.

I did some digging and apparently this is all because the top executives are worried about 1. Obama getting in and 2. The Employee Free Choice Act getting passed if he does.

Guys, I can say sincerely that the level they are freaking out about this all of a sudden means the EFCA must be a damn good act for the regular person. They are playing to the fact that most employees at the bottom in retail are not well educated. The video is almost like a class "educating" them about unions, even telling them what a union is. In extremely biased terms of course. The video even assumed the employee is so stupid they don't know what a strike is. It tells them "a union might ask you to go outside and tell people not to shop here!" of course it fails to explain WHY such a situation might happen....

But I can say this. Working at a store in which most people are getting by on bare minimum wage and low benefits... if the economy keeps going the way it is it won't be long until the low wage earner just can NOT live at all anymore. And when that happens there is going to be MAJOR change. When people can't afford to eat and pay rent anymore that's when they finally get up and do something.

court would do regarding state/religion, and abortion. I say those are emotional issues designed to appeal to the base, the real red meat is what would happen regarding labor laws/issues. Say goodbye to minimum wage laws, unions, discrimination laws, unemployment insurance among other things. I wish this would get to the forefront more.

Keep posting, I enjoy your posts, and I do hope you are talking about Walmart and not Target, as I actually enjoy shopping at Target.:D :D
