GOP House Candidate Calls Black NBC Reporter 'Uppity'

Republican candidate for Congress Rick Goddard made a racially-tinged remark last week to describe NBC News reporter Ron Allen during an interview on a Georgia radio show.

"Last night, Newt Gingrich disarmed a very uppity newscaster who tried to question him on the capabilities and leadership of Governor Palin," Goddard said on a local radio show last week, referring to an interview between former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R) and Allen after Alaska Gov. 14. That word almost disappeared.
Whereas the term was heard often at one time, its frequency seems to have been reduced since the civil rights movement. Now it is back, and on the front page. Do younger folks know its history? Will racists bring back its partner N word?

Something like this:
"You bet your ass I'm uppity. I remember a time when people were lynched for claiming the same rights as everybody else. People like Eleanor Roosevelt, John and Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King devoted their lives to ensuring that I could be "uppity", so I wear that badge with honor. Yes sir, you bet your ass I'm uppity."
