This still makes me choke up even after 7 years....
A simple song about simple men and women who tried to save as many as they could...

The first time I heard this song, it was in October of 2001, on the NPR local folk show. I had to stop the car. I couldn't keep driving.

with a fireman going up the stairs haunted and choke me for a long time. I will never forget those days....

2. That fireman survived...
I know the photo and he lived. I was consoled to learn that, since he had such a young and earnest face.
