Not-Ready-for-Primetime Palin Ready to Declare War on Russia

Palin: War with Russia may be needed

Thursday September 11, 2008

Palin doesn't know what the "Bush doctrine"' is; Tells ABC she thought it means Bush's "world view."

Gibson brought up Russia's recent invasion of Georgia, an act roundly condemned by the Bush administration and by McCain himself. He asked Gibson if the US would be compelled to answer militarily under the NATO treaty if Russia again invaded Georgia. Palin answered, "Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help."

* Expanding on her answer, Palin said, "We've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable."

1. If Georgia becomes a full NATO member and is invaded again.
We would either be obligated to help, or the NATO charter becomes worthless. Assuming all the conditions are met by such an invasion.

The original point of NATO was to defend against Russian aggression.

Lets hope we never run into such a situation.

8. she's already escalated the incident to direct military confrontation
. . . where's the room between military force and diplomacy?

Here's Obama's response: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/europe/july-dec08/russia_09-11.html

"Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full-scale war. Georgia's territorial integrity must be respected. All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis."

"No matter how this conflict started, Russia has escalated it well beyond the dispute over South Ossetia and invaded another country." He again called on the United States, Europe and other countries to unify in condemning "this aggression, and seeking a peaceful resolution to this crisis."

14. Oh I agree with you in the present.
But if Georgia is a full NATO member in the future and a similar incident occurs, we may run into some trouble.

2. Great idea, Sarah...you go back to Alaska and keep an eye on Russia.
There must be a place up there where you can sit and watch. And you tell us when something happens.

4. Let's substitute some words here:
We've got to keep an eye on the USA. For the USA to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable."

Iran in the 1950s was a democratic country. Chile was a democratic country until 1973 and the US put in that dictator. I'm sure you can add to the list.

Palin is a cockroach compared to Putin the bear.

5. Either she is a complete idiot....
or she doesn't care enough to know the facts. I am no friend of Putin but Georgie was the provocateur here. A VP should know the facts.

12. Gibson asked her if she thought it was OK or not to do raids into Pakistan
without the permission of the Pakistan Government. She regurgitated a lot of words, and stuck to the talking points. I got the impression that she didn't even know that this has already happened.
