Jonathan Falwell, son of Jerry Falwell, Sr. says the country is close to reaching the goals set by his father...one of them being control of the Supreme Court and thus the striking down of Roe v Wade.
"I can guarantee you that Sen. Obama ... is not going to put judges on our court like Alito and like Roberts.""I think what Dad would say is that we are sitting at a crossroads in our political landscape -- really for the future, 30 to 40 years in the future," Jonathan Falwell told Baptist Press. "The next president is going to nominate at least two and maybe more Supreme Court justices. When Dad started the Moral Majority back in the late '70s, he had a vision, he had a plan to bring our country to the point where abortion on demand would no longer be legal. We are so close, with President Bush putting Alito and Roberts onto the court, we are one vote away from a court that would be a strict constructionist court (and) not one that tries to legislate from the bench."
Jerry Falwell had disagreements with McCain, Jonathan Falwell said, but would have supported him.
"So, for people -- even conservatives -- to say that Sen. McCain is not the perfect candidates and therefore we're just going to stay home, that's not a wise move and I don't think Dad would support that move," Jonathan Falwell said. "Dad would say, 'It's far better to have somebody who's 90 percent your friend than to have somebody who's 100 percent your enemy.... Sen. McCain has said he's going to put strict constructionist judges on the court, and he went as far as to say like Alito and like Roberts. I can guarantee you that Sen. Obama ... is not going to put judges on our court like Alito and like Roberts."
One son Jerry Falwell, Jr. is now Chancellor of Liberty University. They are already showing their opposition to Obama and their preference for McCain.
Falwell, Jr said that an Obama rally couldn't park in a shopping plaza parking lot because of IRS regulations. Okay for McCain rally.
And then Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. of Liberty University gave a verbal wink wink to the McCain camp.
Parking won't be an issueA few weeks ago, Barack Obama held a rally in Lynchburg, VA not far from Liberty University. Just down the road from the rally site was a shopping plaza where those attending the rally were expecting to park – unfortunately for them, the lot was owned by Liberty University and they refused to let rally attendees use it, citing IRS regulations.
Joe McCain is scheduled to speak briefly at Friday’s convocation service at 10 a.m. at the Vines Center, said Liberty spokesman Johnnie Moore. McCain then will head to Roanoke for a campaign stop, and return to Lynchburg for a 2 p.m. rally from the campaign’s “Victory Bus” in front of the Vines Center.
...."Of course, Falwell insists that this is totally different:
Parking isn’t the same kind of issue with Friday’s campaign event, Falwell said, because the school has met IRS regulations by extending an offer to the Obama campaign to come to LU.
Catch this part of what Falwell said:
Falwell admitted back during the Obama flap that, had it been McCain seeking to use its parking lot, “It's true we'd be a little more tempted to help.” No kidding.
Found this interesting tidbit about the Obama rally.
Bus fuss: Mel White, the former ghost writer for Jerry Falwell and other right-wing televangelists, recently paid a small town in Virginia for busing supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to a local high school to hear the candidate speak. According to various reports, the town was forced to provide last-minute shuttle services from a local stadium to the high school after Jerry Falwell Jr., son of the late Falwell Sr., refused to allow rally attendees to park in the shopping mall owned by Falwell’s Liberty University. White and his spouse, Gary Nixon, chipped in the $900 to pay back the town for its services.
Bay WindowsWe are back where we were before the last election. The right wing extremists in the name of God are in a good position to control the election.
The culture of
"babies, guns and Jesus" is taking hold.
This sounds like a regular mom. What a refreshing change from these narcissistic, arrogant billionaires (on both sides of the aisle) who do not have a clue as to what life is like for us - the great unwashed - who make this country run.
...."This week, when I stand in shock in the grocery aisle reeling from the increasing price of groceries and every basic home item, I will be thinking, "You go, girl."
In the words of Rush Limbaugh regarding Mrs. Palin: "babies, guns and Jesus - hot dang!"
That is sadly from a real letter to the editor in a real paper in Central Florida. It is not satire, it is not snark. It was meant sincerely.
