Gas rationing in Vicksburg, Charlotte
Gas Rationing In Vicksburg Over Worries About Supply Shortages

http://www.wjtv.com/gulfcoastwest/jtv/news/local.apx.-content-articles-JTV-2008-09-11-0011.html

News channel 12 has learned that gas stations in Vicksburg are rationing gas to customers. The move comes as oil companies worry about shortages as Hurricane Ike moves through the Gulf Coast.

Exxon Mobil, Valero, ConocoPhillips and Marathon are among the companies halting operations at refineries on the Texas coast. The refineries in the area account for about one-fifth of the nation's refining capacity. Exxon Mobil's refinery outside Houston is the nation's largest.

Supply concerns have sent wholesale prices soaring today. The price refineries charge to retailers has jumped to record levels between $4 and $5 a gallon on the Gulf Coast.

Local Gas Stations are Asking for Voluntary Gas Rationing due to Ike

Charlotte, NC (WBTV)- The storm having an impact here in Charlotte before it even hits.

At the Petro Express on Wilkinson Boulevard on the West Side of the city and at all Petro Express and Kangaroo stations are asking customers to limit gas purchases to ten gallons. Experts anticipate Hurricane Ike could hit oil refineries in the gulf hard even harder than Katrina.

Prices are already climbing. Triple A says the average cost of a gallon of gas is three-sixty-seven in North Carolina...two cents higher here in Charlotte and it's at about three-fifty-six in South Carolina.

2. Same thing here outside of Knoxville - one place had it at 3.97
Lines several cars deep and a wait of about 10 minutes to get to the pump. All kinds of rampant speculation around the soccer field tonight, some parents buying into the fear mongering and others just saying "we've seen this shit before". I'm not sure which way to lean to be quite honest, since we never can count on the government or corporate America to do anything right without thinking of their back pockets first.

6. This might be the reason for gas rationing: the Houston area has
about 5 million barrels/day refining which is about 30% of total US refining. The refineries are now offline due to Hurricane Ike and it will take awhile to start them back up once Ike passes. The quickness of the start up is going to depend on how much damage was done to the refineries and the power infrastructure.
