"We're ready. Once the storm passes the water will go down. We'll know more in nine hours then we can recover."

Holy Toledo, talk about oblivious.

1. Oh dear, I just feel like she is in profound denial about this. I hope I'm wrong for her sake.

2. Sure it will hold the water, but not when the water is 5-10 above the wall.

5. She sounded way too optimistic for what is coming down the pipe.
I fear for all of those in the direct path of this storm that have remained in Galveston.

7. She needs to pull the first responders out of there
If she's stupid enough to believe a three foot sea wall will protect a barrier island from a Cat 2-3 hurricane, then let her do what she wants. Stupid is often fatal.

However, the police and firefighters and ambulance crews need to get to safety.

What happened to the grand evacuation plan of hers? What on earth is making her optimistic at this point in time?

23. According to another thread
she doesn't want to "scare" people. I think it's way past time to stop worrying about that & start screaming "GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE IF YOU CAN!!!"

but then, that's just me.....

12. I was watching the seawall..it is backed by ground..it is not a 'levee'
it's a fricking concrete wall between the GROUND and the SEA to prevent corrosion of the GROUND..it is not to keep the sea back...it's the damn water OVER the seawall that is and was the worry!!!

14. Lady, the city is FLOODING
have you been watching KTRK?? Hell, I'm 5 hours' away, watching that station on the internet & trying to keep my jaw from being bruised by hitting the floor so much while watching the footage from Galveston. Based on what I've seen all day, you're beyond screwed. You're SCREWN.

28. Watching the Weather Channel, CNN, and MSNBC
My mouth has continuly dropped and I have constantly screamed wow and whoa. I have been shocked by what I have seen. Since early this morning the city has been flooding. I am shocked at how much this storm is doing while it is so far away from land.

16. "The seawall is holding"???
Nobody EXPECTS the seawall to collapse, you idiot. That's not the danger. The danger is from the 20+ feet of water that's gonna come pouring OVER it.
