BBC's NewsNight - - US troops' anger on Iraq duty
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 10:43 PM by Cell Whitman
They interview some troops in Iraq who definitely have a better grasp of what is going on than those who put them there. They are very, very blunt.

Don't know how long this video will stay posted on the BBC site. Page includes vid player so it may be a tad slow loading.

Sad story but here it is...

US troops' anger on Iraq duty

US troops talk to Newsnight's Andrew North about not wanting to be in Iraq and how the effort is hurting the US economy and reputation.

Guardian photographer and film-maker Sean Smith spent two months with the US 101st airborne division over the summer, in the Shia strongholds of Sadr City and Shu'la, where peace still seems a long way off.

(On edit: Our troops really, really deserve better leadership from Washington. They are doing outstanding work given the task assigned to them. They deserve better from DC. The BBC also interviewed Gen. Petraeus on the same show which can be found here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/7611645.stm )

3. It's what happened with Vietnam...the troops started balking and so did their commanders.
They figures out they were tools... :-(

5. Petraeus puts the best face on it but
he obviously sees that Iraq can go from very bad to worse in a flash. I also think he is playing along with Bush and co by setting withdrawal dates well into next year - I think he and all but Bush know this is an impossible situation. Our troops get it and I think more of them would say so if they didn't think they would catch hell for speaking up. They shouldn't be in a postion like this. There political leaders should be taking care that they are not be put into plan-free wars for no reason beyond the child king's whims.
