Sad post from an evacuee. Gave me pause.
Post subject: Cannot locate my family

I know that the media has been in and out of the neighborhoods in Galveston. I cannot locate my family. My mother, father and brother opted to stay and ride out the storm. Prior to the eye passing, I received a text from my Mom telling me that the roof was about to give and there were fires all around them, as well as rising water starting to make its way into the house. I have received nothing since but a "no service" text from my mother's phone.

If anyone in the media or otherwise would survey the damage around 53rd and N 1/2 (heading north on 53rd from the San Luis), I would forever be grateful. Their house is on the corner there. I don't know what else to do at this point but wait. Thank you so much for any help anyone could provide.

1. Oh, no. Those Ch 11 people were telling people to check this site
the Red Cross has. You can list yourself as safe and search for your people. :(

2. What you can't do on that site is get an overall count for the disaster...
or look up names without addresses (i.e. what about the homeless? what about the undocumented? what about checking up on that old friend you haven't seen for 5 years?)

Here's another frightening post from KHOU. I didn't want to post it as an OP:

Post subject: Three testimonies

Granted, it's all second hand information but we have heard from a local fireman, a local policeman, and a resident still on the island (that identified 2 dead themselves) that the death toll is extremely high... and that they are just sitting on it until the hysteria dies down.

The first account comes from a fireman on the island that said he had never seen so many dead bodies before.

The second from a friends boyfriend who happens to be a police officer, who has said they have gathered so many dead and are keeping it hush for now.

And the third from a resident on the island that discovered some dead in one of the local businesses on 23rd.

I don't wish to add to the hysteria, but I find it horrible that the news is being complicate in not reporting the death tolls to the public. It's criminal.

3. I'm surprised they're letting people post or that they aren't scrubbing.
The undocumented will die as they did in the CA fires because they fear ICE. The homeless always die in these events.

That is very frightening. I hope it's wrong.

4. We'll it's very subjective too.
The "most" dead people someone has ever seen--even someone in law enforcement or rescue--might be 60 or 70.

150 bodies would seem like 1000 due to the trauma of such a site.
