Please call to fight forced JROTC-

Dear Friends,

One of the amendments to the upcoming Defense Authorization Bill -
amendment #5331 - would deny federal funds to any school that refuses
to have a JROTC program. Leaving aside the whole range of reasons
that a high school might not have a JROTC program - small size of
school, lack of interest in enrollment, lack of facilities, conflict
with curriculum, expense, etc - this also clearly interferes with
local choices about the age at which young people should be recruited
into the military.

Please call Sen. Levin's office by TODAY, Tues. Sept. 16 and urge the
Senator to eliminate amendment #5331 from the list of those that will
be considered. (Sen. Levin is the chair of the Armed Services
Committee, and will decide with Senator Warner which amendments will
make it to the floor.)

Senator Levin's office.

The message should be something like this: "Keep amendment #5331 off
of the Defense Authorization Bill."
