Check the strength of YOUR bank at this site!
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 08:24 AM by TwoSparkles
You can look up your own bank--and discover the strength of your bank. Very
informative and revealing site.

http://www.bankrate.com/brm/safesound/rating.asp

NOTE: The site gives two ratings:

1.) A star rating--range is 1-5. One is the WORST. Five is the BEST.
2.) A CAEL rating--range is 1-5. One is the BEST. Five is the WORST.

1. I have Bank of America in Georgia.
And there aren't any listings for Georgia. Only California, Oregon, Rhode Island and North Carolina.

I bank with Seventy Squirrels Bank.
I don't see them listed, but I'm not surprised. Squirrels don't keep good records. Every time I try to make a withdrawal they throw nuts at me until I go away.

But their calenders are great!

No actually I did look up the bank I bank with, and it looks moderately stable. So thanks for posting this.

3. Thanks for posting this!
With everything going on, I was starting to wonder about my bank. I see it has a great rating. At least there's one thing I can feel better about today.

7. Same with my credit union
From what I understand about economics (which is next to nothing), credit unions are more secure than banks. I hope that's correct.

5. I just checked mine and it's
solid on both ratings, fortunately. I got lucky, 'cause I changed banks when I moved from Ohio to SD a few years ago and my bank in Ohio is now in deep trouble and is close to the worst ratings on both of those ratings scales. They were horribly mismanaged, even years ago, so I'm not surprised at that at all.

I checked hubby's tiny little independent rural bank and it has the highest ratings on both scales, which was the first I'd seen of that in the several banks and credit unions I checked. That is really good to know, since he has a lot of assets there. The family that founded and owns it is very competent and stable.
