Are there any market sectors doing well or ok despite the overall downturn?
Or is everything just too intermingled nowadays?

1. I don't know - but i would guess that basic day to day things people need
will continue to do ok, even in an economic slowdown. I mean people gotta eat.

3. CREE Was UP $1.50 Yesterday, and it's up almost $1 This Morning
CREE makes the best LEDs.

LEDs are even more efficient than CFLs now, and last a lot longer.
They also don't have the disposal issues that CFL has.

6. My travel nursing gig seems to be OK for now.. even so, I'm socking away $$ instead of trying
to pay down debt every month. They'll be getting minimum payments from me for awhile, until things settle.

7. People continue to need food and medicines, discount places do well in bad times
You know those stores that are cheaper than Wal Mart? They do well. People still have to eat, people still take medicines. People still drink alcohol, and more of it in some cases, when times are hard. Think about it for a little bit and you will be able to come up with more.

9. Consumer staples are doing well
General Mills hit a 52-week high this week.

On Monday, when the first big drop happened, Coke, McDonalds, and Home Depot weren't as affected.

From what I have seen, the tech sector should also do okay.

10. defense contractors doing well, it seems
I know Boeing seems to be doing well (lots of job ads), despite the 2 strikes (mechanics and engineers) it is dealing with. Also, I notice Amazon.com still has tons of hiring ads up here in the PNW, so I would assume that internet retailers are doing ok.
