surge update - 7 U.S. soldiers killed in helicopter crash in Iraq
so, in a war zone, the most 'obvious' reason is mechanical failure?????? oh really?

BAGHDAD: Seven American soldiers were killed early on Thursday when a helicopter on a routine supply mission crashed in southern Iraq.

American and British military officials said there was no immediate suspicion of enemy activity. The Chinook CH-47 came down shortly after midnight about 100 kilometers, or 60 miles, west of Basra.

Major John Hall, an American military spokesman in Baghdad, said it was too early to know the cause of the Chinook crash. "The most obvious is mechanical failure but we are still looking into that to see the

cause," he said.

The crash came hours after the American military confirmed that an American soldier was in custody over the shooting deaths of two fellow Americans at their patrol base near Iskandariya on Sunday.
