What the hell is so outrageous about tying patriotism to taxes?
and why are the people speaking on behalf of Obama/Biden having such trouble articulating this concept, at least on msnbc? WE need to help rebuild our country, and help our fellow country people that are suffering. We need to fix our infrastructure, improve our schools and help our soldiers and their families, just to name a few. Fixing and improving OUR country is patriotic, is it not? Well, guess what folks, that is going to call for taxes. And for the wealthy, that have been living high on the hog these past 8 years, it is time to pony up. Is that so hard to understand?

1. Simple. It conflicts with the Junta's message.
Wow. That is a surprise. Not.

2. As an Obama cynic, I was thrilled with Biden's line that paying taxes is patriotic
I can happily defend that. It's about time a major Democratic leader say that.

4. Reps have won many races based on the tax scare. Time to ask the top 1% to be patriotic in an ad!

5. Because patriotism is all about AVOIDING your responsibility to your fellow citizens.
And about killing things, of course.

8. It's the 'conservative' mentality that taxes are PENALTIES ... FINES.
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 01:53 PM by TahitiNut
We see it even on DU. The notion that taxes are somehow a punishment is an obscene corruption of reason and justice. It's the idiocy that rides on the notion that government is 'them' instead of 'us.' The gross tragedy of this attitude is how folks ACT in ways to make it come true. It's no wonder we're becoming a fascist tyranny.

11. Appropriating $$$ for the military has been trumpeted as a patriotic cause by Republicans
especially the money going to Bush's insane Iraq war. Where do the Republicans think the money comes from? Granted that the chimp has been borrowing money up the kazoo for his simian escapades, but the taxpayer is paying down that debt as well.

13. What's wrong with you?
What kind of pinko communist are you? Patriotism is not about putting your money where your mouth is and paying for what is supposedly the epic struggle of our country against Musli errr.. Terrorists. Patriotism is about 100 million dollar platinum Toby Kieth songs about putting our boots up peoples asses. Patriotism is not about filling out a recruitment form for the military. Patriotism is about putting stickers on our cars and waving little flags.

So who else thinks that this years American Idol will be the coolest ever?
