NATIONAL 'GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE' DAY

The MICAH Project along with America in Solidarity are issuing a call for October 1, 2008 to be declared as NATIONAL 'GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE' DAY. We are seeking a commitment from all those we are in solidarity with, as a matter of justice to send out an 'alert" email, text or phone call on that morning reminding their folks to check upon the validity of their voter registrations.

This is response to:

---In New Jersey, 300,000 folks who thought they were safely registered, found out that either they had been purged from the rolls, or never were entered in the first place.

---In Michigan, Republican county auditors have stated that anyone in any phase of foreclosure will be stripped from the voting rolls.

---In Ohio, 6006,000 voters have been threatened with losing their right to vote. This is being done primarily to people of color.

in 2008 there were widespread problems with the vote in Florida and in New Mexico in 2004 a Hispanic person was five times more likely to be purged from the rolls and a Native American was eight times more likely. In Ohio in 2006, 303,000 people went to the pols only to find out that they could not vote.

Let us not let this election mirror 2000 and 2004. Every vote in every state needs to be counted. Let this election be decided by people, not dirty tricks, electoral manipulation or machines.

How can you help? My endorsing the GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE DAY on October 1, 2008. Spreading the word and advocating for it's declaration with all you have contact with.
